Doc looked around for a landmark, something he recognized.

Turn left, you fool.

Doc decided it would be impolite to argue. Turning left he came to the edge of the cliff and looked down to find the sudden realization of just where he was. "I don't want to be here. These guys are really weird."

Shut up, you fool. We need to find out what happened.

"Heh. I was fourteen my first time," Spike murmured, "It wasn't with a girl though."

"Don't know why I told you that. Haven't spoken to anybody about that in years."

"Not since I was installed, anyway."

"But that wasn't by choice."

Doc smiled a bit at being trusted with that information. He was pretty sure everyone else in the canyon hated his guts but he seemed to be on the way to making at least one friend. He was still feeling embarassed though. "Sometimes people say things when they're ready to say them." That psycology class talking again.

"Doubt it. There are plenty of people I know I could never speak to about my past."

-Like Wyoming.-

"I can barely stand thinking about it. People say the high school years are the best years of your life, but for me they were nothing but painful. If I could help it, I'd erase them from my memory once and for all."

Doc paused to remove his chestplate so he could use the full range of his arms. "Repressing stuff isn't healthy." doc tried to think of something more helpful to say. "You won't have to go through it all over again. I ahven't heard of anyone getting sent back to high school as an adult." Actually at his school no one had ever been held back or had to repeat anything. They had a more free form/indiviualized ed system at the commune. And look how well that turned out. Doc mentally admonished himself for thinking so negatively.

"Maybe not physically, but mentally... there are moments when I can't help but have flashbacks. And not of the few pleasant times, I can tell you that."

You're depressing yourself. You should think of happy things. Dufresne's taking off his armor. I bet you could easily seduce him.

Oh, he's harmless. And pretty much a virgin! It'd be a shame to waste this opportunity!

Spike sighed and shook his head, murmuring to himself and Cypher, "He probably doesn't even like guys that way, anyway."

Doc's hands paused this time. "Umm..." Doc started rubbing again. Did that mean what I think it meant? "...sorry I didn't hear that."

Spike chuckled and threw a smirk over his shoulder. "You weren't meant to. I was talking to Cy. He's under the impression that I could easily seduce you."

"Oh," Doc blushed. Well that's true. "Do you want to?" doc tried to keep his tone neutral. He'd learned to hide certain things since leaving the commune. Med school hadn't had the same opinions about that as home. This was one of the big reasons he didn't ask guys to turn their heads and cough.

Spike laughed at Dufresne's question, giving him one of his rare smiles. "Nah man, it's not my style. For one, I'm not really big on sex anymore, and for another, when I am, well..." Spike ducked his head, hiding his blush, "I may look like it, but I'm really not the dominant type, if you get my drift."

This is really unprofessional. Doc tried to think of something to say. Gathering up all his courage he managed to say, "If you take off the shirt I might be able to get at this one knot a bit better."

"Kay," Spike complied, removing the armor on his arms so he could properly remove the fishnet he wore under his armor, unaware of the medic's discomfort.

Hey Spike, what if he tries to seduce you?

Spike chuckled to himself. -I'd like to see him try.-

Doc worked at a knot under the freelancer's shoulder blade. He tried to turn the conversation to something less threatening. "How do you know Vic? It is Vic, right?" He decided he'd have to deal with O'Malley and Vic sooner or later.

"We went to school together, believe it or not," Spike replied, closing his eyes and focusing on the feeling of Doc's hands on his back. "We were friends, even enlisted together, but once we got to boot, things changed. He focused on gaining rank, and I focused on training. I didn't care about rank, I had no reason to. I was just glad to be away from my dickhead of a foster-father."

Doc rubbed a little harder and went a little farther down. "You were adopted?" That question was less than brilliant, too.

"Yeah, my parents died when I was six," Spike replied, arching his back into Doc's hands.

"Goddamn, but that feels good..." he all but moaned.

Doc had to bite the inside of his cheek to not make a noise in response. "How did you go from being a recruit to being a freelancer? I heard that program was really hard to get into." All the info he had about it was what he'd seen from Tex's med file.
