When Adam and Eve were cast out of the Garden of Eden into the Dying World, God placed a burning sword in front of the Tree of Life to guard it from assault. But why would God place the sword in front of the tree if there was still not a purpose for it? Is it meant to tempt men for all time? Is it meant to someday be used for us to eat the fruit and gain the powers of the divine? Is it key to our elevation to a higher level of existence? Through the divine gift, we will become divine once more?
If I ever were to stumble upon the Garden of Eden, I would grasp the burning sword with both hands and with it I would run the Tree of Life through to the heart of the wood and watch as the tree, fruit of the divine and all, slowly burned as the sword expended itself against the Tree.
Humanity needs nothing to achieve divinity. We have the highest, impossible depths of potential within each of us. Any benevolent diety, should one exist, would delight in us recognizing this fact about ourselves. By taking the gifts of Heaven we become thralls to Heaven. When we create our own Heaven within ourselves and our existences, then we could indeed look at the divine and say "I am myself and you are yourself and while your powers are greater, I am not lesser than you."
A God that would smile and accept me when I said and meant that would be a God that I would accept. Not worship, not have faith in, nor any of those things. Simply accept.
Worship, faith, prayer and miracle are all roads to thralldom.
I will not be a thrall.
