The out look she had on life at the time was a huge thing that she did. I have read a lot about children of that age during the Holocust and many of them did not have the same look on the situation that she did. Yes, she did have what we would like to call a "normal" teenage years however, she had hers with the fear all the time of being caught, which in and itself is a HUGE thing.
Anne Frank also gave us a look into the functioning of the family unit during that horrible time. Though her family and they way they hide where not typical. The Franks and the people that were hiding with them gave us a good outlook on how people where functioning under that fear.
If you where to look at it in a historical prespective we can follow the war just from the diary. It is such a remarkable book from not only the historical prespective but on many other prespectives.
I am sorry that you do not think that she DID anything, but I along with many others including Dr. Cocks would have to disagree with you. She gave the historical and personal prespective that scholars look for when they are studying the war, especially things that were going on in Germany before the United States got there.

"...because in spite of everything I still believe that people are really good at heart."

I have the book, and I think it is great. I agree that it is a good way of showing the historical perspective. I guess since she wrote it as her own personal DIARY, with no intentions of publishing it, it just bothers me that she gets the most credit whereas there are SO many books from those that lived and died during this time and she is the most famous. I don't know, I can't explain it!

I will so donate $1.00 ... it should get you SOME gas to get you to airport to start your journey. :)
