FREAKIN' LOVE THE THING.
This is the first time I've been able to go in years - the past two, I've had band trips. There actually was a band trip, but it was a last minute sort of deal and it was only a part of the band. I am so glad I was able to go to Folklife this time.
FRIDAY:
Arrived slightly later than planned, but still in time for swing dancing. Saw Titanium Sporkestra, a "punk marching band," and they were really fun. Also got to see some belly dance.
SATURDAY:
Saw flamenco and button box accordion. Saw a bunch of people we knew all at once - the Breslers, a browncoat friend, Mike, Cassie, Kelly, Grace, and Simon and Idi(sp?). Ridiculous. Got a bracelet to aid Darfuri kids. Did homework while the parents went shopping with Noam for a bed, then we all went out to dinner.
SUNDAY:
Happy birthday Zack! We were super late this day, but whatever. We saw the Israeli folk dance group, and I stayed for the Turkish group that was next. Met up with Deb, went shopping, and then participated in a klezmer jam session, which is probably one of the coolest experiences all weekend, because I ACTUALLY PARTICIPATED IN MAKING MUSIC AT FOLKLIFE. Also, it was really Jewish. Saw Mike again, with Shelly this time. Then we saw Joan and Lou and Aunt Jean before they had to go set up for the Labor Program. Did some more shopping in between, saw the performance. Saw the very end of the Middle East showcase, saw our relatives off, and then went to get some champagne to celebrate Zack's birthday.
MONDAY:
The late just accumulated. Met up with Deb at The Big Jewish Show, then saw some sudo-family, then did lots of shopping. Zack had to get the rest of the gifts for his friends, I got my coat (it's classy!), mom had to get honey, parents had to go talk to an artist about a commission for a special pot, we all got our Folklife shirts, mom had to get a bowl for honey, I got to see a great street performer, I had to get shishkaberries one last time (which I didn't mention yet, but had lots over the weekend). In going to the bathroom, I got to see the Greek dancers on the way, which meant we were super late, but I was happy to see. AND THEN WE LEFT. Goodbye, Folklife! It was a good year!
Can I get a hell yeah?
