Back From the World

Another update on life after a long time…

Hawaii is my new favorite place on Earth, and Australia was pretty fun despite staying in the red-light district and being surrounded by hookers while there for a Catholic event. It was fun nevertheless and I got to experiment with photojournalism and help Mike with stuff for Spirit Juice. I was about 5ft. away from the Pope to get his picture too. The dinner cruise, seeing kangaroos, $10 steaks, seeing The Dark Knight on the world’s largest imax, and our bottle of wine in the hostel room the last night were some of the biggest highlights of the Aussie experience.

Enough about Aussie (aussie, aussie, oy oy oy!), Hawaii! The best place on Earth! Our house was big, the landscape was beckoning to my camera to document it, and I couldn’t have ever dreamt of spending it with better people. Some of the most fulfilling and enriching experiences of my life were there. I spent a month with people I love deeply, and the island taught me so much about life and appreciating what’s around me. The power of the ocean and lava, and how quickly they can change the landscape is astonishing. We saw sea turtles, dolphins, bores, fish, erupting volcanoes, lava flows, and so much natural beauty and wonder that I can’t put it into words. When I am a rich teacher I will move there.

Over the course of this summer I have grown very much as an individual. I’ve grown up, I’ve moved on from some things in my life, I’ve matured, and I see more clearly than ever where I’m going in life. I don’t dwell as much as I did previously on little things, and I know who and what is important in my life. I’ve matured and in doing so I dress differently (I don’t go out in sweats unless I’m going to crash at someone’s house), conduct myself differently (I’m more open and friendly), and have a re-arranged list of priorities (teaching and photo work above play). I like it like this. There’s still much fun to be had, but there’s also much more responsibility I have to take in my life. Honestly though, I like who I’ve become. I couldn’t be happier.

This summer brought about a shift in friendships too, though I’m not sure I lost any, ties became greater between some. I’m closer than ever to Mike & Brig, and Amy and I are no worse for the wear. Joe and I were actually brought closer by the separation, and the funny thing is, I’m close with his friends too. Joe Wilcox and Tony are both great guys, and currently we’re trying to get Tony and Manda together since they met at my bonfire and didn’t hate each other. Which if we succeed then “my friends” and “his friends” will officially be connected making them “our friends”. Funny because we still aren’t dating, but that’s ok, I have all the time in the world for things to fall as they may. I’m not going anywhere and neither is he.

As a whole this summer was the best one yet. It came at just the right time in my life and benefited me in ways I cannot explain. I will journal later about classes and life in general as it is to date exactly. This properly wasted 40 minutes and now I must drag Sana’s booty to the library.

Later,
Adgie
