I've had this blog for 7.5 years now.

First of all, I'm curious who still reads it.  I think my long hiatus during the campaign may have sent the message this was dead.  That's exactly what I was afraid of!

Also, I want to start a more "professional" blog that's less about my personal life and more commentary on our culture.  It might be an asset to ( Read more... )

As far as being "decent enough at writing" I think as long as someone writes about something they are passionate about and have a good concept of the language they are writing in, they'll be a good writer.

If you aren't passionate about what you write about, then it's really hard to ever rise to the top. Take me for example (ego...GO!): compare the entries where I'm talking about something I'm not well-versed in, like politics or women; and compare it to my entries about sports. You'll notice a stark contrast in quality.

In regards to professionalism or whatnot, I'd open up a completely different blog from your livejournal. Places like Blogspot and Wordpress seem to carry a higher degree of professionalism than Livejournal (which is more like it's namesake, a personal journal in the public eye).

Conclusion:

- Get a separate blog on a more reputable website.
- Write about something your passionate about.
- Dominate.

Those are really good points. And yeah, that's what I was trying to say- LJ isn't a professional place. And that's fine. Blogspot, I was trying to remember that one.

Thanks! I'll try to dominate. :)

Not sure how you're going to find a passion though, you don't strike me as someone with strong convictions.

Try pottery, the world is lacking a big-name pottery enthusiast.

My apologies for putting the wrong form of "you're" in my original post as well. I'm so upset with myself.

LOL @ pottery. There are some barns devoted to the craft, I suppose.
