... I am breathing in the humid (polluted) HK air.
How?
At the gate, PB and I found out that there was one business class ticket left - PB ended up taking it, and I got a whole 2 seats to myself in economy.
Seating was really tight on this flight because the larger Airbus 340's were being serviced and as a result, the smaller and older plane that usually fly from HKG - YVR was in use. Right after I had settled into my seat (and discovered that there was no PTV on this plane), there was an announcement over the PA.
8 volunteers. $600 CAD each in vouchers or $300 CAD cash. Get off this plane and postpone your trip. For whatever reason, (perhaps more fuel, since the plane has got to go to YYZ instead of YVR), the plane was overloaded. Too much weight. This is great for us since our tickets were reward tickets so not only did we not pay anything for our tickets, we're now gaining $1200!
I bolted out of my seat, ran up to the FA and said hey, my husband and I will go! I think PB needed a little cajoling because he was already in his cushy b-class seat. In the end, we were promised a bulkhead or exit aisle, and were back on the wait list for b-class for another day. And we have a few days to kill in HK now.
We got our voucher, and picked up our luggage. Luckily, I had a few HKD with me in my travel wallet, and my Octopus card. Transportation was found - and here I am.
I feel a little guilty... I had wanted to go back to work early on Thursday... (I can't believe I just typed this). There's stuff to be done around the house. A sink to be picked up... floors to be chosen. And my Mom had already prepared food for us. But it's Hong Kong. It's my in-laws, and it's my Dad. I only get to see my Dad twice or three times a year so I can't pass this up. And it's shopping! :D
