I went to a talk with him a month or so before he died. He was on the losing side of an argument there too.

Humm ... I don't recall it too clearly, but I think he was arguing against epiphenomenalism, but the other guy just tore him apart hardcore, I thought.

Yeah, actually, I read the rest of Existentialism, Emotions, and the Cultural Limits of Rationality today, and it was so disappointing. He very clearly announces what he's going to argue for, and it's a really interesting claim, and then he proceeds to give no argument at all for it. Or at least, I couldn't find one, and I was looking pretty carefully. Brr.
