Overdue update.

I haven’t posted for a while, there’s been so much going on + the fact I didn’t really have access to the internet for most of Feb.

On the 27th Jan (I think that was the date) after knowing for most of the New Year what was happening, I approached my Manager & the Financial Controller of IDG and said:

‘I appreciate all you’re doing for me in regards to keeping me in the company - but the position I’ve been offered here is;
A) Nothing to do with what I’ve learnt / done here the last 4 years
B) Nothing I am vaguely interested in
C) A substantial pay cut which I can’t afford to take considering I’ve just purchased a unit.

So - after beating around the bush for a few weeks I finally had to do the dirty work for them and bring up the possibility of being made redundant.
The look of relief on both of their faces wasn’t a surprise, and I was happy that it was finally out in the open and it was agreed I would be paid out rather than asked to leave due to my position being made redundant.

On Jan 31st I finished up at IDG as Production Coordinator, after 4 years of dedicated(!) service.
I was re-imbursed for all leave I hadn’t taken, as well as given a substantial redundancy package.

After going through all the motions - Anger, Sadness, A sense of loss, Being scared of having to start all over again etc - I got onto Seek and everyday, actively applied for jobs.

I scored 3 interviews.

The first one I didn’t get due to not having Web Offset Printing Experience. No biggie, I’d rather not be involved in the mechanics of printing jobs.
The second one I made it to the second stage interview for a Production Manager of the Trading Post. After careful consideration I declined the offer, as it seemed to be heavily based around design & graphics - none of which I’ve had any hands on experience with, although I’ve seen it all carried out at nauseum over the last 4 years.
(Funnily enough I was offered the interview again after the job was re-listed, but it was too late by then)
The third interview I aced, and two days later got the call saying they loved me, accepted my Salary Expectations of $10K more than they were originally willing to pay - and I started the next Monday.

So, fast forward to now - I’ve been here 7 days and man, I forgot just how hard it is to start all over again.
I have had to learn 10+ different programs and a whole new way of working, work ethics and 200 names I’ve forgotten as quickly as I was told.

My new job is an ‘Associate Producer’ on the Toyota Team at an online (The self proclaimed biggest in Australia) Marketing Agency.

Amongst clients like Channel 7, Yahoo, The Olympics and Mc Donalds - basically the companys’ motto is ‘Building Business Online’

Without going into too much detail we basically look after all our clients online needs, from advertising campaigns to making, updating and maintaining their websites, doing electronic mail outs, and all sorts of other online marketing mediums.

It’s hard to say exactly where I’m at so far as it’s only really early stages.
Everyone’s nice, helpful, friendly. I’ve learnt a lot and I’ve got a lot to learn.
The pay is great, funnily enough it’s in St Leonards (Where my old job was) they’re extremely funky (they’ve got a pool & foosball table in the kitchen) and we’ve got views of the harbour (not where I sit of course but I can see them if I put my head up hehe)

So far so good, I’ve done heaps of HTML & Java obviously as everything’s online.
I guess once probation has passed and I’m able to work autonomously I’ll be able to accurately describe my position more.

Anyway it’s home time now, just thought I’d get in a quick update about a fairly big change in my life.

Hope everyone is well :)
