My day...

Jul 29, 2009 22:59

Why am I waking up at 9? I've signed myself off work, I should be able to sleep til midday, but I'm still waking up early and can't get back to sleep.

Decided I'd have a movie day today. Started off with:

Balls Out: The Gary Houseman Story. This is as yet not certified on there yet as there aren't enough reviews. But, trust me on this, the movie is BAD. Bad, bad, bad. I expect you were going to anyway, but avoid.

Next up: I Love You, Man. Well this was surprisingly good. Laughed throughout and although formulaic, I still enjoyed. And an 82% review from Rotten Tomatoes doesn't come about easily. I'm starting to not hate Paul Rudd now. Anchorman, 40 Year Old Virgin, Role Models and now this, he's doing solid comedies. Respect.

Okay, so that was followed by... Look Who's Talking. Yeah, I know, what was I thinking? But I was in the mood for a comedy and knew I only had time for a 90 minute film as a friend was on their way over and they live an hour and a half away. 70% Rotten Tomatoes? Generous. Perhaps when it came out, but not now, 20 years later. Still appreciated it for retro factor.

Exciting stuff, I thought I'd already seen this next movie before this year. But it's not in my movie diary, so it must have been at the end of last year. So it counts in my movie count! Chad came over this afternoon so I put on The Aristocrats as he hasn't seen it before. He didn't like it as much as I was expecting. Perhaps he's not as twisted as I at first thought. Got a sturdy 80% from Rotten Tomatoes though, so they know what they're talking about.

That finished and we headed out to the cinema. Yup, I left the house. This proved to be a mistake as I can barely stand up, let alone walk. I was so slow trying to walk through the mall to get to the cinema and was sweating like a bitch. Yeah, I think next time I have full blown flu I shouldn't be so stubborn as to argue with my body and go out. Of course, once I was seated in the cinema I was pretty much fine, it was just the getting there that was a problem. Chad is somehow immune to this flu thing that's going round - I reckon he's a carrier. In fact, I can't prove that he didn't develop it and spread it to begin with. Seems the sort of thing he'd do. Anyway, cinema, we went and saw Public Enemies. Rated 66% on Rotten Tomatoes and I reckon that's pretty accurate. Good movie, worth seeing, but nothing life changing. And goes on and on and on... Christian Bale was annoying but everyone else did a good job. He should stick to Batman, Batman kicks ass.

So that's five movies today, filling up my movie diary nicely. But I've still not made 100 this year. Public Enemies was number 89. 89? Feels like I've watched way more than that. But then I went about three months in the spring where I didn't manage to watch a single movie. Not one. Only 11 more to go before 100, need to make sure I line up something special for it.

Just while I'm discussing reviews, that same site says that Moon is worth 90%. I agree completely. Again, great, great movie. If you can find somewhere that's showing it, go see it!

In non-movie related news today, my supervisor at work called today to check how I'm doing. Then told me off for not taking the Tamiflu that I've got. "Why haven't you taken it?" "I dunno, I just haven't". I decided to play dumb and not tell him why I haven't taken it. The real reason is that a very good friend of mine has Crohns disease. Swine flu is EVERYWHERE here. The media isn't blowing it out of proportion - everyone here either has it or knows someone that has it. So there's a good chance that this friend of mine is going to get it. The news reports on the deaths have all pretty much said that it's not swine flu that's killing people, but it's existing medical conditions that are then exacerbated by the flu. I don't have any underlying health issues, so I know I can just sweat it out. However, swine flu could quite easily take my friend out hard. He doesn't have Tamiflu (because he's an idiot and didn't subscribe to the work scheme that offered it). So I'm not taking it unless I really HAVE to. If he gets it, he can just have my box instead of having to wait for our stupid health system (that has already shown it cannot cope with this pandemic!) to get a supply to him. It's not like he'll know anyone else with a supply, it's unusual that I've got one.

I'd like to blame London for it's over populated public transport system for spreading this flu around the town so quickly, but actually, I know quite a few people out of town that have had it too.

Anyway, it's not so bad. It's just flu. I've had proper flu once before and it's just a matter of sleeping / sweating it out. And not doing stupid things like fighting against your body and going out of the house! I could barely walk to the bathroom this morning, I have no idea how I managed to get to the cinema. Hiding in a corner making sure I didn't even make eye contact with people, let alone share the same air.

I could bleat on about being ill all evening, but tis not too interesting. Time for bed and a little more convalescence.

Nite all!

;) x
