Alright, happier entry.
So Rachel still annoys the shit out of me, but last night she slept on the floor of the office so there was no huffing and puffing and slamming doors at 1 am or even having to wake up to her obscenely annoying alarm this morning.
Yesterday I realized how amazing my new Arts One teacher really is.
Up until now, Arts One has been heavy duty books and heavy duty ideas crammed down our throats until we were about ready to shoot ourselves. We'd all write essays, and in tutorials (4 people plus the teacher) we'd just talk about the ideas in our essays and (at least in my case) my grade never changed from a B. He would mark me a B everytime and I had no idea why, but it wasn't a bad enough grade for me to complain about not knowing what I was doing wrong.
This new guy, well I read my essay to him yesterday and he gave me actual feedback on my writing. A lot of what he said seemed so simple I couldn't believe I hadn't thought of it before (like using active voice all the time instead of passive voice, which I had unconciously been doing a lot) nor could I believe no one had mentioned it before.
I told him how I felt and he said that the UBC professors aren't really paid to 'teach', they join the university to do research. And so that's why everyone has TAs, but in Arts One there are no TAs so that sucks. I was like "OMG! Thanks!"
Anyways, so Arts One is going better than ever. Aside from that my other classes are okay. Both are pretty much BS classes I think.
Writing for New Media is just a bunch of people sitting around talking about Star Wars and Batman and whatnot. Apparently though we'll talk about writing for video games in the future, something I actually have an interest in.
And Canadian Film Studies... well, uh... let's just say there's a reason it's such a small market. Haha. It's fun to talk about the movies though, and the professor has the most mutilated Irish accent I've ever heard. It's hilarious. Plus he's always making jokes because I'm pretty sure he knows he is teaching a BS class.
Anywho. I've taken to putting my hair in a ballerina bun. Makes me feel like Narcissa Malfoy, that's how cool I am. lol.
Anyways, just needed to throw in a happy post.
P.S. Dracula is actually a really good book.
