1)
Cherry West is now closed. I wonder what's going to take its place?
2) The owner of EastWest Lounge in WeHo has been trying to sell the place for six months, but no one's biting. And unlike other WeHo locations that seem to be cursed to failure, that corner of Santa Monica Blvd. and Larrabee gets PLENTY of foot traffic. Perhaps it was the concept of a members-only club that are keeping people away. Or perhaps it's the fact that they charge crazy prices for their booze. Or that their bartenders and wait staff leave something to be desired.
3) Meanwhile Club 11 is scheduled to open in January. All the wait staff has been hired there, and there's going to be some good performers lined up to play in the upstairs space.
4) Guillermo Hernandez, UCLA Professor,
passed away in July. He was a leading expert on corridos and an outspoken and active member of the UCLA Department of Spanish and Portuguese. This is a big loss for UCLA and the field.
5) Ever wonder what MOMO is at 7551 1/2 Santa Monica Blvd.? Well, wonder no more. I saw group of Japanese folks pull their car into the metered spot right in front, and they made their way in. I thought maybe it was a clothing store or something. I tried to go in the other day, but it was a holiday so it wasn't open. I looked it up online, and turns out it's a massage parlor. Right next to the nudie bar. I can't say I'm surprised. I can check that off my list.
6) FINALLY: The Hard Rock Cafe at the Beverly Center closes its doors as of today. R.I.P.
