Author’s Notes: For my fiction writing class - I felt like writing something scary, since it is October. :D It’s getting workshopped in class tomorrow, and I’m kind of nervous but also excited. XD Anyway, hope you enjoy! (Also, the first chapter of the Doctor Who fairytale should be up very late tonight, once I finish fighting the stupid thing, *facetable* XD)

I know you’re scared.
It’s okay though - it’s going to be okay; just trust me. Listen to me, and do exactly as I say. No, no, don’t look over your shoulder - look at me. Keep looking at my face. We’re going to get you out of here; all you have to do is follow my instructions and- No! Don’t turn around. No, there’s nothing behind you; just keep looking at me and do as I say, and - oh, try not to make any sudden movements.
I know this is scary for you, but it’s probably going to get scarier before it’s over, and I need you to just keep listening to me and keep your eyes on my face. It is absolutely essential that you stay calm. I’ll do my best, but I need your cooperation, and if you panic things are going to get very bad for both of us.
All right, are you ready? We’re going to start now. We’re going to walk you slowly to the front door, all right? No! Don’t look behind you, I know where the door is. I’ll talk you through it, okay? Okay, here we go - listen to me and trust me. Do not turn around - keep your eyes on my face, and, as slowly as you can, take one big step backwards.
Good! All right, keep walking backwards. Slowly! Very slowly. And if I say stop, stop. You don’t want to run into it. The table, I mean; there’s a table. Keep your eyes on my face, good, just keep looking at me. What - oh, my eyes? That’s just a cold; don’t worry. See, look, I’m smiling about it. Come on. Keep walking backwards, nice and slow. You’re almost to the door, and then we just need to make it through a couple more rooms and down the staircase. You’re doing great. We need to go just a little bit faster, though, just a little.
Out of curiosity, how red do my eyes look? No, don’t answer that, just keep walking. Okay, stop, we’re at the door. We’re about to go into the next room, and before we do, I need to tell you - I don’t know exactly what’s in the other rooms, so if you see movement, close your eyes. No matter what - even if it’s just out of the corner of your eye, even if it’s a flicker in a mirror - close your eyes, and keep them closed until I tell you.
Okay, let’s keep walking. Slowly. Don’t look over your shoulder. I know it’s hard, but you just have to keep looking at me, all right? Okay, here we go.
Shuffling? What do you mean? No, I don’t hear anything - and besides, there’s nothing but us in this room. Nothing to make noise. No, it’s not something walking; let’s talk about something else. How did you get in here, anyway? I mean, I know generally, but how did you get this far without being- well, that doesn’t matter, you must just be lucky. I guess- close your eyes! Close your eyes; there’s one in the doorway. What? No, nothing. Keep your eyes closed. Keep them closed; if you open them even a slit you’ll be- keep them closed! Put your hand over them if you need to. Now take a step to your right, towards the doorway - no. Stop. This one’s not moving. Hell, we’re going to have to go back through the other room, and we don’t have much time.
Okay, take two big steps towards me. Now one more. All right, they’re both behind you now; you can open your eyes again as long as you keep them on me. Come on. I’m going to go back into the other room first to see what’s there; stay where you are and wait for me. If you hear anything moving behind you, yell for me and try to stay away from it, but don’t look. Okay, got it? Here I go; I’ll just be a minute.
Still holding up in there? Good. Hear anything moving? Great; it looks like the coast is clear here, I’m just going to glance out into the hallway - what? Hang in there, I’ll just be a minute longer.
Okay, looks like the hallway is clear for now; I’m coming back. You can start walking forward into this room and- MOVE, it’s right behind you!
Okay, stop, you can stop; start walking slowly again; follow me. Didn’t you hear it coming up-? No, never mind. No, it’s not following you anymore. Don’t look; just keep looking at me and keep walking forward. This is the room we were in before, remember? We’re just taking the other door. Just out the door, and then it’s a straight shot down the corridor to the staircase.
All right, here we are - but I don’t know what might show up in the corridor; better close your eyes for this part. No, you can’t hold my arm; just- DON’T TOUCH ME! Don’t. Don’t touch me. No; sorry to frighten you, I just - here, take a deep breath and let’s keep going. Close your eyes and follow my voice.
Okay, you’re doing great. Just keep walking slowly, keep your eyes closed, that’s it. Come on, keep coming, keep- watch your shoulder! -too late. No, don’t look; it doesn’t matter. Come around to the left a little; you don’t want to step in the pieces. It doesn’t matter what it was. Keep your eyes closed. All right, walk forward now; we’re almost to the top of the staircase - oh, perfect. Now it decides to leave the doorway. Okay, walk a little faster; you need to get past it, and the other one’s still - did I say it wasn’t following you anymore? Well, then it isn’t; just walk a little bit faster towards my voice. Keep your eyes closed; come on; we’re almost to the staircase.
Okay, you’re at the top stair - feel for it with your foot and start walking down the staircase. There you go, now the next one. A little faster, if you can - faster, but don’t stumble. Are my eyes any redder? No, wait, you have yours closed; don’t open them. It’s fine. Keep walking; you’re halfway down the staircase now and the front door is just across the entry- oh, no, here they come; hurry up. Don’t run! Just walk as fast as you can without stumbling. Okay, you’re almost at the door; reach out your hand. Feel the handle? No, you’re too far to the right; more left. There it is. Now lift your hand a little bit higher; there’s the lock; hurry. Okay, can you turn it? I know it’s kind of tough, but try. Hurry, hurry! You just have to apply enough force, there you go, it’s starting to move- hurry-
Look, you’ve almost got- no, don’t look; don’t open your eyes until you’ve shut the door behind you.
No, I’m not coming with you.
There goes the lock- get outside, close the door behind you, and run.
Run for your life.
