Families Split Apart

Apr 25, 2003 14:04

I planned on doing this one a day until I ran out of stories, but I forgot to, so I will be doing this till I catch up...

A family of four, daughter age 15, son age 18, living in the United States for the past 10 years or so. I watched the girl grow up - from a clingy little sister to a very independent and smart girl.

They are Canadians, in the sense that they immigrated to Canada 10 years ago. The father got a visa that allowed him to work in the States, and the family settled here. Mother, father and daughter returned to Canada a few weeks ago to make sure everything is in order. The son remained here because he had exams. Once in Canada, the family was told they could not return to the States.

Was the visa expired? Was it invalid?

No, no, everything is in order.

Why can't we go back home?

Because you are Canadians. You have to stay in Canada.

But we are allowed to go to the States. You said so yourself.

Well, we aren't letting you back in the States.

It's been 6 weeks. The son is living alone, not knowing if his parents or sister will ever return.

I need to call him to find out how things went when he went to get registered. Would the only way he will see them again be if he is forced to return to Canada?
