When I left work yesterday, it was precipitating. I think it was only raining, but I park my car underground below the building where I work, so I don't know for sure. At any rate, I don't cross any bridges between work and home (except a very small stone one that doesn't seem to freeze up much) and the roads -- even the dark, narrow, twisty one through the park -- were just wet. This being Greater Washington, of course, the traffic was horrendous, and it took me more than two hours to make the 50-minute trip, but the roads were fine.
When I arrived in my driveway, however, two of the three people who would ultimately make it to the shire meeting were sitting in their cars waiting for me. I was abashed until I realized how grateful I was; had they not been there, I might have been reduced to sitting in my car in the driveway until the Heir got home from closing the store. Even the lawn was a sheet of ice. I could not under my own power have made it to where the ice-melt was to salt the walk.
It would have been easy to work from home today, except that I had a meeting scheduled at 9 am with the new second-level supervisor. I badgered the Heir out of bed to help me get back down the steps to the car. If the weather forecast is accurate, the steps should be fine by the time I get home, but that's probably a pretty big IF. I really must do something about getting the railing replaced.
Bee safe!
