Space Heaters

My new apartment is a bit chilly.  As such, I've been looking into space heaters.  I ran across these instructions for finding the right space heater and using it properly.  I couldn't help but notice that this is pretty much the same advice that applies to dating:
  1. Select a space heater with a guard around the flame area or the heating element.
  2. Buy a heater that is the correct size for the area you want to heat.
  3. When selecting a heater, look for one that has been tested and certified by a nationally recognized testing laboratory.
  4. Read and follow the manufacturer’s operating instructions.
  5. Broken heaters should be checked and repaired by a qualified appliance service center. Do not attempt to repair, adjust, or replace parts in the heater yourself.
  6. Be sure the plug fits snugly in the outlet.
  7. Some heaters have very hot surfaces. Be sure to keep children and pets away from space heaters.
  8. Never leave a space heater turned on when you go to sleep or leave the area.
  9. Be aware that mobile homes require specially designed space heaters.
  10. While it should be noted that some heater models may pose a fire hazard, many provide clean and efficient draft-free heat that feels just like warmth from the sun, and are safe and easy to maintain.
