For Love

Jinki rolled down the window in his car. The air tasted the same and smelled the same. The light breeze made his skin feel cold, the fresh winter scent, all of it felt like every other day. But then why was his heart aching and his eyes glossy?

Kibum.

The boy was the reason to his broken heart, his tear-stained cheeks, and his pair of cold hands. Kibum left him, taking away his heart, mind and soul, and only leaving behind a short note.

I am sorry Jinki.
In all honesty, you are the best thing that has ever happened to me. I sometimes found myself loving you more than I even love myself. But I cannot do this anymore... You are hurting. I am hurting. You do not deserve all this pain and suffering. I am not worth it all Jinki.
I wish you the best with Jessica and Yoogeun.
I want you to know I will always love you now and forever.
For now, this is my farewell.

Jinki remembered the stabbing feeling of each word to his heart as he read the note. He remembered kneeling down on cold wooden floor, gripping on every strand of his hair to stop the throb. Tears were rolling down his cheeks as he desperately called out for his lover. The other was his life and without him, he was lost, alone and hopeless.

He dialled Jonghyun's number, waiting for the other to pick up. He understood Kibum a little too well to know he would have told his best friend his decision.

“Hello?” The other's voice flowed through the speaker.

“Jonghyun ah, do you know where is Kibum?”

“J-jinki hyung?”

“Where is Kibum?”

“Er...I”

“Please Jonghyun, I need to know...” He pushed for more information in a whisper.

Sensing the elder's distress, he let out a soft sigh. “I am not going to lie to you hyung. He's gone and won't be back for-”

“G-gone? What do you mean?” His voice weakened; his vision started to blur at the news.

“Kibum left to Japan this morning. He wanted to spend some time alone...” The younger paused, “And try to figure things out. I'm sorry hyung.”

Jinki remained silent as he allowed the others words sink into his heart and mind. His phone slipped out of his grip, landing on the leather seat with a thud. A faint sob escaped his quivering lips and he did not care whether the younger boy heard him or not.

He wanted to cry until there were no more tears left.
He wanted to cry until his Kibum was back into his arms.
---------------------------------------------

It had been a month since Kibum has left him, but to Jinki it felt like a whole lifetime. He had tried countless times to act normal in front of others, especially for his family. He smiled at the littlest thing in hopes to make the pain in his chest subdue. And despite the smile playing on his lips, Jinki was slowly dying inside.

He hated being alone without his Kibum. No matter how hard he tried to give his whole attention to his wife, he couldn't. He would end up thinking about him and that she was the reason he was gone now. His anger would rise and the married couple would be in a heated argument. He remembered finding himself mumble, “You're not my Kibum. He's gone, gone because of you!” to her one night. And so to avoid everything in life, he was infrequently home.

He also discovered that working continuous had helped ease his mind and the ache in his heart temporarily. He would be occupied with something, anything, that was not related to the beautiful boy. Hence, he was rarely seen outside of his office. He was rarely seen doing anything that was not paperwork related, including eating and sleeping.

It was not hard to tell Jinki was suffering even with his mask on.

Jessica was not stupid or blind to know this craziness had to stop now. She knew her husband was the type to keep everything to himself, all the pain and all the guilt. However, this time she wanted him to tell her the whole story and not bits and pieces of her imagination along with his words. She had to confront the other about the truth, fully knowing she would be the only one hurt in the end.

The blonde hair girl sighed as she knocked on his office door.

“Come in.” The beautiful voice behind the door spoke tiredly.

She stepped in the office, spotting Jinki behind a pile of manila folders. Her thin lips tugged in a small smile and he forcefully smiled back. “Jinki...”

Her husband dropped down his fountain pen and took off his black frames. “Why are you here today? Did you want to go out for lunch?”

She met his blank gaze and fought back her tears. She knew how much she would miss him after this was over. She knew how much she would regret her decision for his happiness, for love. “No, I came here today...” She stopped as a tear rolled down her rosy cheek.

Jinki got up from his seat, taking her hands in his casually. “Hey, what's wrong?” His voice was gentle as he spoke to her and only her.

Another tear fell as she shook her head. “N-nothing.” She could change her mind now and move on like nothing was wrong. But, her eyes missed nothing in his gaze. The dullness and the misery was clear. Biting her bottom lip, she pulled herself away from the other.

“Jess?”

“Let's get divorced.”

Jinki stared at her and frowned. “What?”

“I just think it would be better if-” She could not finish her sentence due to her muffled sob in his shoulder. The tears rolled down her cheeks, staining his gray cardigan.

He patted her back lightly and hushed her quietly. “Why are you doing this so suddenly?”

“I know you are miserable without him and-”

“I don't know what you're talking about.” He interrupted her, pinching the bridge of his nose.

“You may think you can fool the world, but not me. I know you are overworking yourself everyday so you can forget about him. I can tell how much he means to you and how much you mean to him... Kibum must really love you to have left.”

He gasped as his brows knitted together, “H-how did you-”

Her slender finger wiped away her hot tear. “I called him a few days before he left to Japan.” Jessica told in a deep breath, “I was the one that told him to leave us alone.”

His expression hardened. “Y-you...” Jinki felt a mixture of emotions within him. First, he was angry to know that his wife had called him and was the reason for his departure. He was guilty. He knew it was wrong of him to be angry when it was his selfish action to cheat on her. Lastly, his stomach churned at the thought of Kibum and how he felt to be called by Jessica.

“I already called the lawyer and signed the papers already. All it needs now is your signature.” She spoke clearly, avoiding his eyes. She dried her tear-stained cheeks with her sleeve and made her way to the door.

“I'm sorry Jessica.”

“I'm still angry and have bad feelings towards you. It'll take some time Jinki.”

“I understand. I'm sorry and thank you.”

“Just don't make me regret this...” With that, she stepped out of his office, allowing herself to stop fighting back her tears.

---------------------------------------------

That night, Jinki had called out Jonghyun to the bar. He wanted to spill out everything that had been bottled up inside of him. Most importantly, he wanted to know how Kibum was doing lately.

“You two got divorced?” Jonghyun had restrained a smile to the news.

“Yeah. She knew all along about me and Kibum...” The elder told a long sip of his alcoholic drink. He enjoyed the bubbly feeling of the liquid down his throat. “How is Kibum?”

“Kibum is safe and sound.” He scanned their table and counted the numerous drinks the other had. “Hyung, you should stop with the beer. I think you have had enough.” He reached out his arm, only to be roughly swatted away by the other. “Kibum wouldn't want to see you like this.”

Jinki finished the last bits in his cup and slammed it down on the table. “Well, he isn't here to see me like this.” His words were starting to slur. “Oh how much I wish Bummie was here...” He rested his head on top of his arm and sniffled, “Bummie...”

The blonde hair boy sighed as he popped a chip in his mouth. The thing he hated the most was watching his two good friends cry. Being trapped in between them and not being able to help them made him so helpless. He knew the two loved each other more than anyone else in the world. The two just needed a little humph and this was what he could do for them. Wrapping his arm around Jinki's waist, he helped the drunk boy towards his car. “Where to hyung?”

“I want... Kibummie.” Another tear rolled down his beet red cheek.

Jonghyun dropped off the tipsy Jinki off at Kibum's condo. He wrote down a quick note and stuck the sticky note flat on the elder's forehead. He smiled, giving himself a pat on his shoulders, before exiting the condo.

---------------------------------------------

Jinki's eyelids fluttered open. The sunlight was blinding him and he used the back of his arm to cover his eyes. His head was still spinning and hurting; he regretted drinking so much last night.

He remembered every detail of his sweet dream he just woke up from. It was one of the best dream he could ever had. He saw Kibum and he was still as beautiful as before. The other was caressing his cheeks, looking down on him worriedly. The feathery tingle his fingertips left felt so real. He remembered hearing his lover whisper 'I love you' in his ear before placing a gentle kiss on his lips.

The dream was too good to be true. Kibum was miles and miles away from him.

Unaware, a tear slipped from the corner of his eye.

He sat up, taking in his lover's faint scent from his room. It felt like old times, except he was all alone now. There was no Kibum beside him, no one to cook him breakfast, no one to laugh along with his jokes, and no one to plant kisses on him. He missed the other.

His gaze lingered on the cupboard beside him. He noticed a pink sticky note with Jonghyun's messy writing 'Here is your crying loser Kibum!' and a pair of white frames. He cocked his head to the side finding it so familiar. “Kibum!” He jumped out of the comforts of his bed and rushed outside.

A soft humming was echoing throughout the house and Jinki wondered how he had missed the noise. He tiptoed quietly, to the kitchen, behind the silhouette. The multicoloured hair was now a shade of brown and it seemed like the boy had lost a few pounds.

The eggs on the pan was skillfully flipped in the air.

Jinki blinked at the figure standing in the kitchen. He reached out his lanky and trembling arm, resting it on the boy's shoulders. He was afraid that the other would disappear from his touch, like a mirage. “Kibum?”

The other dropped his pan, making a loud clank.

Hugging his lover from behind, Jinki hid his face on the crook of his neck. “I missed you so much.” He whispered against the soft warm skin that he missed. “How can you wish me the best with Jessica when I can only be at best with you? Only you Bum and I want you to know that.” He pressed a firm kiss on the rosy cheeks that he missed and felt a hot salty tear in his mouth. “Just, please don't ever leave me again. I love you so much Kibum.”

The younger boy turned around, wrapping his arms around his waist. “Jinki...” He murmured his name, “Jinki...”

Cupping his cheeks, Jinki leaned in to kiss him. “This isn't a dream right?” He kissed him again and pulled Kibum closer in his embrace.

“No,” Kibum pinched his lover's nose playfully. “I'm here in your arms, now and forever.”
