何でそうする、古文？

I loves me some 古文, but seriously. I think it's fucking with my ability to speak modern Japanese.
Like that day that both Eric and I thought that "あらない" was grammatically correct. HUR.
I just know I'm going to say "べからず" one day and NOT KNOW WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO BE IN MODERN.
Midterm tomorrow. Never taken a Flueckiger midterm. We'll see how this goes.
I realized that I had been going about studying wrong the whole time... learning specific conjugations of auxiliary verbs as opposed to learning that "OH, DUR, IT'S A RA-HEN, JUST REMEMBER THAT."
But because I realized it, now I can remedy it. And it makes shit way easier. Because. You know. That's what I was SUPPOSED to have been doing the whole time.
But yea. I feel my six-hours-of-class-Wednesday is going to be detrimental to my studying. Not to mention the, you know, midterm in Gay & Lesbian Ethnography tonight.
Admittedly, I finished up the books last night, so am... well, as prepared as I can be for it.
Did I say that ethnographers were dry? Because they are. Jesus H. Christ.
And as a final note, we spent a good portion of class yesterday examining a 和歌 by Narihira which is notorious for it's inscrutability. And then a bunch of translations, some of which were, as Flueckiger says, "by hacks." Totally true. And yay Flueckiger, you're awesome. :D He also reminded us that translation of this sort is not a good career. WHY MUST YOU RUB IT IN.
But yea. This 和歌 is now my favorite. I don't know if I'm just a fan of inscrutability... which I'm usually not... or if my reasons are entirely superficial. Regardless, I like it. AND WILL SHARE IT WITH YOU ALL.

I usually hate people who try to do that, because it's more often than not just contrived and shitty, because English does not work for this kind of poetry.
