So now that Elizabeth May and her Green Party are allowed into the debates, the Christian Heritage Party wants in too. (Insert ten minute break for laughter). Now, let's break this down to see why this ruling should not be applied to the CHP:
In the last election, the Greens ran candidates in ALL 308 ridings, the CHP only ran candidates in 45 ridings. (It should be about the same this year).
In the last election, the Greens received 664,068 total votes, the CHP only 28,152 total votes.
The Greens, at 4.48% popular vote last election, qualify to receive federal funding, while the CHP, at only 0.19% popular vote last election, do not qualify for federal funding.
At dissolution, the Greens had an MP in parliament (albeit by floor crossing), the CHP did not.
The Greens have a chance to have at least one candidate elected on October 14th, the CHP do not.
