here. Connor wakes to the sound of cursing above the hiss of water. Murphy's in the shower.
Hot water must have run out. Connor grins, before rolling to his side to watch Murphy. The muscles in Murphy's back ripple as he raises his arms above his head and steps back under the freezing spray. Connor catches his breath as the twin devils on Murphy's back writhe. It still feels like a solid blow to the gut every time he sees them. They call to him, mocking. 'Not the same anymore, are you? Look at us. Do you want to know our names? All you have to do is ask him.'
Connor never felt the need to have his demons placed onto his skin. He still fights with them every night, and if he gave them a place on his body, they might draw more power. Or had Murphy had Connor's devils inked onto his own body? Connor's not sure. All he knows is that he wants to lick and bite the patterned skin of his twin's back, try to push away this new difference by accepting it.
Connor turns his head to face the wall. We're still the same in every way that matters. he silently screams at the two devils. He wants to say the same to Murphy. But he doesn't. Focuses instead on getting up, pulling on his clothes without staring at Murphy's body again. Focuses on pushing his demons to the back of his mind for the rest of the day. They'll be back tonight, and he'll make his choice.
