Was reading last summer's A&F Quarterly magazine... this is from the Ask A&F column, hahaha:
Dear A&F,
The 4th will soon be here, & unlike most, I hate it. All those fireworks jokes about it being all fun & games "until someone loses an eye" aren't so funny to me, since I happen to be that someone. While I was participating in a bottle-rocket fight in middle school, I lost an eye due to a poorly aimed black cat whistler. It's been years since the incident, and yet I can't seem to enjoy anything during the 4th.

Our best advice is to really look into things you enjoy during that time of year, and make a point to focus on those aspects of it. Keep an eye on your goals at all times and never lose sight of what it is that makes you happy.
