Ok...
I'm gonna break this up a bit for length.
Saturday we had amateur radio field day at k4rbm's house. Actually, in the big yard next to his workshop. We had a good time and *much* food. I even got on the air and made a few contacts. I also helped kb4snu (Diana) log some of her contacts on 40 meters. Good times!
We did some more packing and took a load over to the house on Saturday night as well. Jamie's car was still at the house, so we road in a mostly crammed full van (Jamie's dads). Jamie rode on the floor sitting backwards - I got the passenger seat. The other seats were at the house being stored.
Poor Jamie.
He started getting carsick from riding backwards the whole way there and almost threw up!
We unloaded the van and headed back to Cleveland to get some rest.
Sunday, Jamie's dad met us at the apartment in Cleveland, we loaded up the van again - and loaded up the truck with things that could get wet. Yes - rain! Oh joy of joys. The driveway to the house was in pretty good shape - until the power and phone got buried - and until the pipe under the driveway at the road got put in. And, it wasn't too bad until the rain came. Now? Thick, slimy, red MUD.
And, we loaded up Nike, Queen of the Planet.
My cat, Nike is old. She is 17 years old which equates to - shit, I don't know - ancient in people years. Usually, if she has to travel in a car, I have to hold her. Put her in a carrier? NOT A CHANCE. If she is in a carrier, she will *howl* the entire time. So - I held her.
She was pretty good! No howling at all. Once we got her there though, she was *not* happy. I set up her litter box. She crawled in and would not come out. So we would bring her out and show her where the food and water was. She would eat a bite or 2, then go back to the box.
Sigh.
She seems to be doing better today though. Now, instead of hiding in the litter box, she is hiding under one of the dressers.
Progress?
Today, we wanted to get *all* of the rest of the moving done. And we could have - if someone hadn't ordered a fracking MONSOON. No, really, I don't think there was 5 minutes all damn day that it wasn't absolutely pouring!! So, instead of trying to load up the truck - we loaded what we could into my car and drove up there. It's a good thing my car is front wheel drive! We got a running start to get into the property - then we have good gravel for a while - then on the uphill portion, got a good running start again to make it the rest of the way.
There was much sliding. It was definately a yeeeehaaaaaa moment!
We took care of that load - came back to the apartment and loaded up again and this time took the next cat, Deusey.
Deusey rode in my lap as well. I laid a towel out on my lap and just pet her. She rested and looked content most of the way up. Until about 7 miles from the house.
Then, she started making this *noise* "mrblemorblemrble" "Morblemrrrrblerrrrble" - awwww fuck! she's gonna barf! I aimed her away from my clothing, and towards the towel. I guess it was time to empty the cat. Here we are, travelling 70 mph north on I85 - and I have a lap full of BarffenDeudel. And a towel full of warm cat barf.
Yes.
It was gross.
We thought she was done! She's a small cat - how much could she hold, right? So Jamie held onto her while I tried wrapping the towel around the barf -and she started again!!! AAARRRGGGGHHH! Jamie was using his knee to steer, I was holding a towel full o'barf, and putting the towel back in front of the BarffenDuedel to catch the rest. Luckily, we managed to not get any on us - or lose control of the car - but I think I will be having nightmares about cat barfage for the rest of my years.
Once we got to the house, I set up her litter box and gave her some food and water. Deusey set out to explore the whole house - not intimidated at all.
Good for her.
Had I been that carsick, I would *still* be trying to sleep it off.
::shudders::
Once we got her settled in - we went to grab a bite to eat and then headed to hellmart. We grabbed a few (dozen) things we needed for the house - including a chair we will temporarily use in the new shower. And *finally* came back here.
Now, I should sleep - Rick will be coming over in the morning to help out with the rest. If we're a wee bit lucky, rain will not soak the bed or anything else that still has to go in the truck.
Sorry for the monster post... I thought it would be better to get it all out at once, since after tomorrow morning, I may be without internet access from home for a few days - and without DSL for more than that.
