SMAP’s Shingo Katori (33) will reprise his drama role from “こちら葛飾区亀有公園前派出所 (Kochira Katsushikaku Kamearikoenmaehashutsujyo)”, it was announced on August 9, reports Mainichi Shinbun Digital and Oricon.
The movie’s title has been revealed as “こち亀 THE MOVIE 勝鬨橋を封鎖せよ! (Kochikame THE MOVIE Kachidokibashi wo Fusa seyo!)”, and will include the original cast from its 2009 drama series.
Shingo, who plays main character Kankichi Ryoutsu, has been reported to have been fired up about filming.
“It’s here! Really? Is it really being turned into a movie? Let’s thrash those ratings! I’m gonna make a scene on screen!” He said.
The upcoming movie will also introduce a new leading lady character. On the drama’s website, fans of こち亀 (Kochikame) have been asked for their opinions about what characters they want to see from the original manga series on screen.
The こち亀 (Kochikame) manga is a comedy series created by Osamu Akimoto and has been published in Shonen Jump Weekly since 1976. To date 170 volumes have been released, and more than140 million copies have been sold.
