yesterday we finished shooting/i finished directing our/my first movie. it's called "efflorescence" and it's about and old man who starts out arranging a bouquet of flowers and ends up "arranging" his life as it flashes before his eyes just before he passes away. this experience was by FAR the most stressful thing i've ever done. i took on way more responsibility than i should have in pre-production. i did some things that, as a director, i wasn't supposed to do, which were partially my fault for volunteering and not being completely trustful of some people and partially other people's fault for being lazy bastards. things such as call all of our talent, get all of their schedules, and painstakingly schedule out every single scene based on locations and talent availability. i won't get too far into details, but suffice to say some of our talent had to drop out in MID FUCKING SHOOT due to personal schedule changes that they didn't bother to tell me about. therefore, we had to cast a crew member or three and reshoot some scenes. it turned out so awesome though. we got almost every single shot we wanted and a few super cool shots we didn't know we were going to get. i'm confident that our movie will be far better than any others in the class. that's not arrogance, i just think we did that good. it will all depend on post now.

i didn't realize i had it in me to be all straight forward and....directive of talent and crew. i've always been pretty passive and easy going, but i pretty much threw all that out the window. josh duchemin co-directed with me and he also did an awesome job (even though he wouldn't help me call anyone...you bastard). i think what helped me out so much, but also sucked tons and tons of balls was everyone in the crew coming up to me or josh and saying "blah blah blah we should do it this way" or "blah blah blah we need to get this shot", and following that up with "you're the director, decide", so i did. sucked ass cuz someone was always pissed, but it ruled because i got to tell them "tough shit". our assistant director, lora, kicked major ass too. even though she was a bitchy bitch much of the time, and we butted heads even more often, she kept things rolling nicely and offered up a lot of good shot suggestions.

in conclusion, i'm taking away from this experience a director credit for a student film that i'm very happy with, and many new friends.
