VVC report!

Aug 17, 2006 12:06

I am here! I'm just moving slowly due to total overwhelmedness and having to remember that it turns out I have things to take care of that are not related to vids or VVC. Which by the way, is totally NOT FAIR.

As for VVC? Best. Time. Ever. (Until next time.)

I am still pretty much exhausted, and that's good because it means I used every last scrap of available fun-ness while at the con. I am not even sure I can begin to put into words the wonderful time I had, but I will try. :) And vids will be following shortly, I promise!

My trip started Wednesday afternoon when Gerry drove me to heres_luck's new and totally adorable house. Adorable and beautifully decorated actually. Where I got to meet her two incredibly cute kitties and got to eat food that she made just for me and Gerry. (And maybe herself--details, pshaw!) It was very yummy. Then Gerry left to drive home and heres_luck and I drove to jackiekjono and lapillus's house. (Which I also thought was lovely, because I am addicted to old houses. ;D) We stayed overnight there and met up with katallison, debchan, and Pam the next morning. At which point we piled into two cars and drove to Chicago. I had a wonderful drive with jackiekjono and lapillus and honestly, the hours pretty much flew by.

Thursday evening we got into the hotel, I dropped my luggage off in the room I was sharing with settiai, amireal, and fairestcat, and I wandered into the lobby where I tagged along after amireal into the House of Meat. Where I had a hunk of dead animal and enjoyed listening to a group of lovely ladies talk both vids and real life. (All of which I can actually name, but considering the very little I contributed to the conversation I'm not sure it's a big deal. ;])

I got a call from Gerry after I had finished eating and I was walking back into the lobby when I saw f1renze, sdwolfpup, and sweetestdrain. At which point I may have screamed into the phone and then hurriedly assured Gerry I would call him back later. :D Then there was Prison Break watching and early registration (minus badge names which we got the next morning thanks to the staff's amazing dedication) and trips to the grocery store to replenish confiscated toiletries (though not mine, hee) and buy food that wasn't meat or fried. There was also meeting up with absolut3destiny, heresluck, and taraljc and saying hi to sockkpuppett and sisabet and vagabondage and many others. And hanging out in a room that wasn't mine until the wee hours of the morning at which point I went back up to my room and set up pictures for sockkpuppett and I's Color panel the next morning. Somewhere in there I also finally got to meet settiai and sometime after that I finally fell asleep.

Woke up bright and early Friday morning (through no fault of my own) and wandered down to breakfast where I chatted with, or more accurately smiled sleepily at, more lovely people. Again, didn't add much to the conversation, hee. Eventually met up with peoples again and then f1renze and sweetestdrain drove me to the nearest BestBuy to get a VGA cable so that I could my (dad's) laptop for the Color panel.

Then there was panel prep with sockkpuppett and then watching of our vidshow. Which was a little sad because the dimmer of the two projectors was being used in the vidshow room at that time and it wasn't kind to either colors or dark source. Then it was time for the panel, and I did my best to keep up with sockkpuppett who did a fantastic job leading the discussion. I may have had to channel Starbuck just a little in order to counteract my normal reaction to talking about something I find interesting in front of a group of people--mainly my voice shaking. It mostly amounted to me going, "OMG stop it! Kara would not have this problem!" I thought of it as practice for the evening's festivities. :P

After the panel I caught the first half (which was really the second half) of the Nearly New vidshow (great stuff), then switched back to the second half of renenet's Music panel (reminded of and expanded on musical structure that I hadn't thought about since high school). After that I hung around to help with Club Vivid set up almost by accident before hiking back up to my room to get ready for the actual dancing and vids.

And hee, Disco!Starbuck. Which, seriously, does sound more sparkly than it actually was. There was a limit to how many rhinestones and how much glitter I could, in good faith, associate with Starbuck. But there was a watermelon cigar! Also with sparkles. ;D I have to scrounge for pictures before posting them though--VVC has some sort of camera-resistant force field. (Plus I have to get permission for posting the pics I have since none of them are just of me.)

There was three hours of exhausting and incredibly fun dancing to an excellent vidshow (yay sockkpuppett and absolut3destiny!) And then hanging out watching vids afterward and hearing about (and helping to act out) the bizarre interactions of the non-VVC-goers that were attracted to the shiny VVC-goers. Plus some sleeping eventually.

Saturday morning I again woke up bright and early despite getting almost no sleep. Did the breakfast thing and piled into the packed room that was absolut3destiny's Comedy panel. And just like his Anime panel last year, it was great. Definitely walked away with stuff to think about and do my best to remember. Then I popped over for the God, the Devil, & Bob vidshow, which had some great vids in it. Then it was a very yummy lunch at the Thai place nearby with a group of my favorite vidders. (OMG MY PEOPLE.)

Lunch ran long and I missed the next block of planned stuff, but jumped back in with the Novelty Songs & TV Themes which I was on door-duty for. It was hilarious. And that button for letting people in is fun to play with.

Next was heresluck's panel on Audio Editing which was also great. And has inspired me to try even harder to get songs just where I want them whenever possible. Y'know, as long as my laziness doesn't interfere too much. ;}

Then came the Lord King Bad Vid show. Which was insanity, but a very fun kind of insanity. :D I'll be sure to hit the vidshows in another post because there were several premieres in this show. Along with almost every vidder at the con.

Dinner was my leftover Thai food and some more Prison Break. Then some standing in line for the Premiere's show. And then of course the Premiere's show. :} To which I say again, another post. ;D And then karaoke! OMG KARAOKE! OMG THE AWESOME! Everyone that did not see absolut3destiny open karaoke with "Razzle Dazzle"? I am so so sorry. :) Because you also probably missed f1renze singing "Killing in the Name of" and totally kicking ass. (Plus she let me keep her up there to help me sing "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'"--somuchlove.) And all of the other songs and singers and the awesome was just indescribable. ::explodes::

Sunday I finally slept in for like an hour longer that 7am, but only in exchange for a really freakin' weird dream. Vid Review was fascinating and I'm frankly shocked that both of my vids were gotten to. And getting to hear what both worked, and perhaps more importantly didn't work, for people was very cool. And I again really enjoyed just getting to hear all the vid talk in general. Then I strolled over to the nearby sandwich place with absolut3destiny and others and came back to eat in the lobby where we got to meet sockkpuppett's daughter tcklemepnkfloyd. And seriously? They could not have been cuter together. :}

In depth vid review was great. Though I may have left it not entirely sure who I was anymore. In a good way? ::dies::

Then I hit up lithium_doll's Special Effects panel which was great for introducing how simple effects can be combined to create complex looks. Auction vids were next and heresluck and I's vid by sweetestdrain was TEH AWESOMEST! LEEEEEEMO! We sputtered and laughed and squealed our way through the whole thing. Ok, so most of the squealing might have been me. The rest of the auction vids were also fabulous, lack of Leemo aside. ;D The Challenge vids were fantastic and if you can track down either of these shows omg DO IT.

Calls from the Public was a lovely wrap up and then I sort of tried to help clean up stuff to help get certain people down to supper faster. There was much standing around at Outback chatting, and then even more chatting and tons of vidwatching over fried foods up in sisabet's room until the weee hours of the night. And there may have been alcohol. And sdwolfpup and I might have really forgotten who we were and possibly had JUST A COUPLE shots of chocolate vodka. *Tiny* shots. If they're tiny you don't *have* to count them.

Then there was Monday with being sad that my caravan back to The Cities was leaving and I had to say goodbye to people and omgthatsucked. But the ride back with lapillus and jackiekjono again flew by, even if I was rilly rilly tired. I drove back to heresluck's house with her and we traded kitty stories and then crashed into bed. And I loved her trundle daybed, soooo comfy. Her kitties made sure I knew my place. ;D

Tuesday morning Gerry came to pick me up and I finally made it home and then slept for daaaaaaays. I'm not sure I've ever been that tired in my life. And now, finally I am trying to get my act together and get vids up and hopefully soon after vid comments on all of the wonderful vids I saw at the con. :D

::drags ass back up to get vids up::
