Yes, I'm still working on this! Hard to believe after this long between vids. And there will probably be another break again while I work on Club Vivid stuff. Which is actually I2006VP stuff. That you just might not get to see for months and months...

Vid #7: "Suburbia"

Wow, that was pretty intense. And kinda made Buffy into a girl!woobie.

Our poor, enduring girl. *sniff*

As you probably know, I *do* like to see my Buffy triumphant, but this did a really good job of showing how much she's been through, and how *hard* it's been for her at points, which is a lot of why she's one of my favorite heroes. And I totally didn't notice the masking. :)

It was strange to play to her weaknesses. Not the natural way of things. ;) Fortunately I have a Buffy vid planned that will let me do the opposite too. Though there are already plenty of those out there. Just can't resist making my own too. ;D

And yay, the masking worked!

You know, I really don't think there are plenty of vids about Buffy's strength, or Buffy in general for that matter. She so often gets vidded as part of a pair (::eyes own vids::) -- there just aren't that many vids about *her*. This is a really welcome addition to that too-small number.

Well, it's both easy and necessary to some extent to show the people around her I think. A lot of energy and time has been invested to show us that her connections to the world are key to her persona, both for good and bad. So I get why she's often paired up. Plus I like Spuffy so I especially get that. ;D

But I really do enjoy seeing vids that focus on her. Maybe I think there are plenty of those out there because of vids like Peacekeeper and Scooby Road. They do do a great job of skewing my perspective. ;}

And thank you. :)

Oh, that is just so heartbreaking. I loved how it just kept going back and forth, back and forth between season seven and season one and the feeling of being slowly dragged down into hopelessness and despair is just so apparent. The motif of the cross falling onto the ground is a very strong one, and I loved how it pretty much bookended the vid ( ... )

Well, I have so much fun watching everyone else's (like you!) vids it's only fair I give back something. ;D I'm tickled you're enjoying the vids. I know I'm having a blast (even if it's a slow one) making them.

The crosses were one of those things that didn't click until towards the end. Vidding would be fun just to find those things. :) Same with the walking being mirrored. I also like seeing those parallels. And I'm sort of overly glad to hear you thought the shovel was a plus. I put that in as one of the very last tweaks hoping it wouldn't read as too abstract.

Thank you again for the wonderful feedback.

Oh wow, I loved it. Watching the show, I tend to get sucked into Buffy's current fight and emotions and forget about some of bigger picture. (Although often the current happenings are so powerful, I can't imagine overloading my head and heart with even *more* of Buffy's horror.) This vid does an amazing job of tying together (e.g., paralleling!) the important, shaping moments, and I just love, love, love how pensive it is. But of course, even though you said it's about poor tiny Buffy, I can't help see her strength all over my screen. And so visuals of her -- even though they're melancholy -- don't feel desperate to me. A delicate balance, which you pulled off beautifully.

I am holding this vid close to my heart.

I'm so happy that you like this. :}

I was nervous about saying it was done, but not, like, hyper nervous. More like Buffy nervous. Or resigned? I knew it was done and there was nothing more I could do for it (without a beta, hee), so it had to go be strong and sad on its own.

Buffy just won't let you kick her all the way down, y'know? She's like, fine, kick me. Eventually I'm getting back up. And then you're gonna be sorry. That time's just not right now...

(Although there was the whole shutting down in WotW with Dawn gone. But that could also be an argument for why she works so hard to protect her friends and family.)

Awww, thank you. :)

That sequence was fun to see coming together--getting to decide just what memories I could see her reacting to. It's the closest I get to writing fic. ;}

Really lovely! I liked Buffy sitting all wounded and broken and thinking back on her life.

I think you really achieved the focus on Buffy. Usually I pay close attention to lyrics and see how they fit (because that's how I *make* my vids, so I have that mindset) but even though I already knew the song, the words were indistinct enough, and the visuals strong enough, that any discrepancies went totally unnoticed. I just came away with a sense of how overwhelmed Buffy can get sometimes. The poor thing.

Beautiful work. You simply blow my mind :)

And while I'm commenting on your vids... I just want to tell you that I am madly, passionately in love with your Gaius/Six vidlet, The Perfect Drug. GUH! The song is addicting, for one thing, and the vid's just so fun to watch! Two favorite parts: at 00:30, the quick edits there, and 00:52, the intercutting between the pan up her body and the walking up the stairs - DAYUM *fans self* Perfect editing and just... blows my mind :D

I ♥ you and your ridiculous amount of talent! ;)

Ooo, you knew the song--thank you for mentioning that! I'm always curious how that will affect watching the vid. Especially when they get chopped up. :) Very happy you liked it.

And yay for the hotness of Six and Gaius, hee! So many reasons she's the perfect drug. :}

(And funny how much of that "talent" turns out to be trial and error in the end. ;D)
