And on and on...

I'm aiming for 10 am or later today before I go to bed. I figure it's gotten so far out of hand, the only way to find an even remotely normal schedule again is to just see this through until I'm going to bed again at around midnight. It's kinda fun, seeing as my work schedule is so flexible it's practically non-existant.

Speaking of which, I set a new animation to render out on a computer at the office last night/today. Now a smart person would have used the extra free time that afforded to do something...smart. Like catch up on other work, or write thank-you notes for wedding cards, or do work for the art exhibition they have going up in a week, or any number of other things.

I didn't have that problem. I spent the entire time going through Buffy and Angel vids. I weeded out a few of the mediocre ones I'd picked up lately, and happily indulged in the favorites I've re-gathered since the hard-drive crash of earlier this year. Also realized I'm still missing a fair number of my old favorites--something to take care of the next time I have to render I guess.

Two in particular really struck me this time. sisabet's Peacekeeper and valeriex's Innocent. Both definite faves of mine, but for some reason tonight they just pulled, y'know? They reminded me of how much I loved the characters on the show, and how...wow this is sounding lame, but how precious life is in general. I gotta say--that's good vidding.

It also really nailed home for me how important song choice is for this medium. Peacekeeper is beautiful song and source-wise, so wanting to crawl inside of it and live there for a while seems perfectly normal. I suppose I could go on and on about the amazing scene choices and timing, but when it comes down to it, what makes it so moving for me is that sisabet chose that specific song to tell that story.

I think Innocent is an even stronger example for how song choice combined with a vidder's unique vision can elevate something to a higher level than another vid of comparable source quality and technical skill. Not to knock valeriex or anything, but the source for Innocent isn't perfect. Normally that really puts some distance between me and vid. Not this one. Every time I watch it, and especially tonight for some reason, my heart just breaks for all of the characters she's chosen to show. I feel them. More so than when I watch the show, usually.

See what I mean? I'm all...sentimental and gushy because of them. ::wry smile:: Anyway--anyone who hasn't seen these should, and if you have them on your computers or CDs, you should watch them again. :) I don't see how you could be disappointed.

On a less touchy-feely note, I'd really like to know what's going on with the Skill Crane providers around here. I called them over a month ago to find out what it would cost to rent a crane for this show that's coming up on the 2nd of Decemeber. To my surprise and delight, they said there wouldn't be a rental fee, it was just that most of the profits from it would go to them. They also said I needed to call back closer to the show, so that they would know what they had available.

So, I called them back. Now they're telling me it's going to cost me $200, plus the cost of toys, to have the thing in the art gallery for three weeks. WTF? Grrr. I told people this was taken care of. That I could get a crane and it'd be all cool. Now, unless I can call them on this...price increase, I have to tell everyone the crane thing fell through. I mean, the show doesn't totally hinge on their being a real, operating crane in it, but everyone agreed it would be an awesome highlight.

*sigh* Now I have this sinking feeling that on Dec. 1st I'm going to be racing around like a crazy person trying to make something that looks like a fake crane... :P
