Captain's Log: The Hromi Cluster

Stardate: 87810.86 Wednesday

If there's one thing that I loathe as being a captain for Starfleet, it's exploring the unmapped regions of our galaxy. Most of the time, the systems we encounter are incurring some sort of trade dispute, or being assailed by electric plants. While Lieutenant Risil certainly gets her share of enjoyment from all of the scanning we've had to do, I'm left wanting something more. Where's the excitement? Where's the thrill?

I had one of those nightmares again. I was commanding a ship on the open seas of Earth, when for no apparent reason, the ship slams to a halt, and a group of corsairs blow me out of the water. I can't understand the significance of it, but the symbolism is enough to keep me awake.

It seems Lt. Tern is jealous of me, having won the affection of Tallasa. I hadn't intended on getting romantically involved with anyone on my ship, and this is precisely the reason why. As of late, his enjoyment of our entanglements both in the air and on the ground has taken on a bitter, almost sadistic tone. There have been times where Lts Risil and Qrohd had to go to excessive lengths to hide his handiwork, lest there be a diplomatic backlash, as "Bloody Johnny," and his crew leave more death in their wake.

I'm certain of his loyalty to the Nightshade and her crew. I'm just beginning to question his loyalty to me.

Lieutenant Commander McCabe. End log.
