Phylum Name: Platyhelminthes, which means "flatworms."

Examples: Planarian, flukes, and tapeworms.

Typical Environment: Some platyhelminthes live as parasites in or on other animals, but some are free living.

Typical Adult Lifestyle: Platyhelminthes are parasites and free living organisms.

Symmetry: Platyhelminthes have bilateral symmetry.

Locomotion: Free living planarians swim through water with a wave of their body, r on a solid surface they glide on a mucus that they secrete and are propelled by the cilia on their body. others attach themselves with suckers or small hooks.

Body Openings: Flatworms only have one body opening called the pharynx.

Cell Layers: There are three germ layers, the ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm.

Systems Present: There is a cluster of nerve cells known as the cerebral ganglia that serves as a simple brain. Their reproduction can be sexual and asexual. platyhelminthes are hermaphroditic, but they can also reproduce asexually by fission. Food is taken in and digested in the gastrovascular cavity. They do not have a circulatory or respiratory system because of diffusion. The cells can exchange oxygen and carbon dioxide directly with the environment.
