Australia is an amazingly scary land. North of here, the land is in flood. A staggering 60% of Queensland has been flood-declared. Put into perspective of the US, that's like Kentucky, the Carolinas, Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Florida all flooding. So, imagine the South underwater.
South of here, in Victoria, bushfires have claimed 108 lives (possibly more) and completely wiped towns off the map, hundreds more are homeless, and the smoke from them is crippling Melbourne. It's the worst fires we've had in my lifetime, and possibly even worse than the Ash Wednesday fires of 1983, which have gone into legend. I think there's something reeking of mismanagement in whatever Victorian government department takes care of forest management, considering there seems to be bad bushfires down there every summer for the past few years, but despite that, this summer would have been exceptionally bad anyway with the record heatwave.
So yeah. o.o;;
The trip is so close I can nearly taste it, but so far...speaking of which, keep an eye on your mailboxes in the next two to three weeks.
