I think I'm getting the hang of this...

... just got another story accepted for FSRN. This one is just a short update on the judicial crisis here. It should broadcast across the USA this afternoon. You can check this listing to find your local station (my peeps in the 'ville - no station broadcasts FSRN - whassup with that? start hassling the good people at fpl/fpk to pick it up!). If there's no local station, you can always download the .mp3, or subscribe to the podcast.

I'm working on a longer feature on the recent media regs enacted by Musharraf. What's the best thing to do if you're a dictator facing an independent-minded judge with widespread public support who won't tow the party line? You guessed it! Ban all live media coverage of all of your opponent's speeches and threaten to seize the premises of any media outlet that fails to comply. That'll show 'em that you love democracy, Musharraf!

Luckily, he withdrew the controversial regs just one week after they were promulgated. The question in my mind is how much damage the action has already done to the press here which has enjoyed relative freedom under Musharraf over the past 8 years. Even with the regs withdrawn, I wonder how the domestic media coverage of the judicial crisis here will change after such a blatant attack on press freedoms. We shall see.
