A prequel of sorts, a bit of character background for my Peter Carlisle in An Officer and the Noble Woman.  It was originally part of the companion piece I'm writing for To Die, To Sleep - To Sleep, Perchance to Dream, which is a backstory for Donna Noble in my monster-on-my-harddrive, AOATNW.  The only problem was this began to take on a life of ( Read more... )

High praise, indeed, coming as it does from a master of the moving and measured.

Coira has lived through her own acrimonious breakup and has experienced first-hand what happens when both parties refuse to acknowledge their part in the dissolution of a relationship and choose to demonize the other. In most cases, I think, you have to remember what it was you loved and what attracted you to a person in the first place in order to acknowledge a change has occurred and that you're no longer suitable for each other. It happens. Humans live so much longer now than we did in the past and we are such different people at different points in our lives and I think it's something that's overlooked when people decry the current divorce rate.

Coira is nothing in my mind if not practical and she's trying to give Peter the benefit of her experiences in an effort the spare him further pain so he can start to heal and move on. She doesn't pull the "I told you so" routine because this isn't about her being right. It's about helping her boy be happy again, and she's still determined to dance at his wedding.

Thanks, as always, for reading and commenting.
