CAP 2 CAP 2 CAP 2 seriously this was just the best movie.
But the workaround they found to deal with Cap's lack of development needs is pretty perfect: you turn his environment upside down and have him react to that. You change SHIELD, and suddenly Cap's idealism and beliefs are being used by the same kind of evil he fought in WW2, to achieve even worse global levels of horrifying genocide. And now Cap has a goal, that links to his past, that makes him choose the right people to fight along with, without anyone having to blink an eye over the fact that he's not gonna get any character development whatsoever because it's kinda impossible to give him any by design. [This is brilliant, really, when you think about it.]
YESSSS. And I really love the way the conflict in this movie raises the stakes for the whole MCU. Who do we trust, how do we continue to uphold our ideals and keep the world/galaxy safe, and also how will we be funding it from now on? (I mean, I suppose Tony will foot the bill so long as everyone agrees to move into Stark Tower.) I love the way all three of these Phase 2 movies have gradually opened up the post-Avengers MCU. Like, starting kinda small ("small") with Tony's PTSD leading up to this one which just blows everything up and has long-reaching consequences for the entire 'verse. I am suddenly way more interested in what Avengers 2 is gonna look like.
And Natasha! NATASHA! They weren't kidding about this secretly being a Black Widow movie. (Now give us our actual Black Widow movies, Marvel!) It was that look on her face in the beginning of the movie after Steve reprimanded her for screwing up the mission on the boat. Like, we had to follow Steve to Fury but I just wanted to sit with Natasha working through that one FOREEEEVVERRRR. In fact, forget Avengers 2, can we please just follow Natasha on her journey of WHAT THE FUCK AM I GONNA DO NOW instead??
ALSO ALSO CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE ARROW NECKLACE PLEASE??
I wrote all that crap upwards about story, but seriously, this movie could be called STEVE ROGERS MAKES TWO BEST FRIENDS FOREVER, and that'd be all right.
Again, forget Avengers 2, I'd gladly spend three more movies on the Adventures of Steve Rogers and His Two Best Friends of Ever. SAM WILSON. I don't know how I've gotten this far into this comment without flailing about SAM WILSON because he is the GREATEST. How have we survived this many movies without him? HOW DO WE GET HIM INTO AVENGERS 2?? I GO WHERE HE GOES, JUST SLOWER.
MARIA. FUCKING. HILL.
If there isn't at least one scene of Maria Hill at Stark Industries trying to kill Tony with her eyes in Avengers 2, we may be forced to call the entire movie a failure.

OH MY GOD, YES. The thing that I've always liked about SHIELD is the power plays and dirty politics behind it, and I'm SO THRILLED they're going there, this movie actually made me more interested in watching SHIELD-the-tv-show of boredom than anything else anyone ever said about the show before. Hee. I'm mean, I'm sure they'll do nothing on the show to 'fix' SHIELD until Avengers 2 does it, but now I'm interested in how Coulson/Hill/Fury are gonna deal with it in the meantime.

The international killer spy with no identity has a symbol of loyalty/love around her neck. Uh-huh. NATASHA, SRY2SAY, YOU'RE NOT KIDDING ANYONE. I cannot wait for the amounts of finding herself fic I'm gonna read from now until Avengers 2, that's for sure. And it really is completely stupid that there's no Black Widow movie in the plans because CLEARLY SHE'S THE MOST INTERESTING CHARACTER, come the fuck on, Marvel. You have the chance of a lifetime here. [In related news, I can't wait for Luc Besson's Lucy because YESSSS to any and all kickass ScarJo I can get.]
Wait, Anthony Mackie is not on Avengers 2? What what? That is in no way ok at all, I WANNA SPEAK TO THE WRITER.

Can Avengers 2 be A Day In The Life at Stark Towers, with Pepper and Hill ganging up on Tony over everything, and being always right and he knows it? That movie would be super great. :)

Interestingly, I read recently in an interview that the necklace was a choice ScarJo made for her character, and that we would see why in Avengers 2. So I think there's going to be more Clint/Natasha backstory and/or at least hints of romance between them.

I want lots of fic like this, please. :D (I'd like to WRITE this fic, but the plot bunnies haven't been forthcoming. Maybe after Hill appears in Agents of SHIELD I'll get some inspiration)
