ASSEMBLE.

[last time I posted here, it was the Avengers trailer. Two months ago. Somehow this feels eerily appropriate now.]

The Avengers opened here a week ago, thanks to it being the 4-day Labor Day holiday [say that 3 times fast], so it turns out I've watched it 4 times already. The excuse was so I could watch it in 2D, regular 3D, IMAX 3D and stuff, but ( Read more... )

I wish we'd gotten to see more Clint being himself for the first 2/3 of the movie, but I'm sure there'll be plenty more of him in the upcoming ones. I'm not the biggest ScarJo fan (don't hate her, usually pretty meh about her), but I actually liked her in this. I LOVE what Mark Ruffalo did with Bruce, and I loved loved loved nerdy! bro-bonding between Bruce and Tony. I could easily watch a whole movie of just that.

Can I say how awesome Cobie Smulders was in this? Someone way back when had mentioned her as a possibility for the Wonder Woman series when they hadn't cast it yet, and I really couldn't see it at the time, but now I can. She was convincingly badass, and I hope we get to see more of her in future films too.

I rarely see movies in the theater anymore, and even more rarely see them more than once, but I'm planning to see this again.

Agreed, and from your lips to the StudioBosses' mainframe!

I have to say, I found her character a bit one-note, but if you're going to be one-note, really competent badass is a good note to be. I really liked that Maria held her own against Fury, and while I was SO BUMMED that Joss killed Agent Coulson (how did I not see that coming?), I was comforted to know that Nicky clearly has another "good eye" in the wings.

She also made that Trek-esque spandex uni look amazing. She'd make a great Diana.

RIGHT?! You know he's gonna do it, because he's JOSS, and he still catches me offguard EVERY time.

Don't disagree with you that Maria was one-note-ish, but it was a note I hadn't really see Cobie play before and I liked it.

Aww, that's a nice way to think about it.

Yeah, a little more Clint-as-himself before he got Lokizombified would've been awesome! And I'm like, one of the three people in the entire internets to actively LOVES ScarJo [ever since Ghost World, it was girlcrush at first sight], I was thrilled when she got the BW part back in IM2, and in this I just... Natasha sorta became my favorite thing about this movie the more I rewatched it.

But I did get a bit disappointed in Maria Hill. IDK, she is so extremely badass in the comics, that I was expecting MORE of it from her. Cobie is awesome, and I don't think she has ever looked more beautiful, but I feel like Hill ended up being the token characters that asks [stupid] questions when they needed some basic exposition to advance the plot. HOWEVER, I am now choosing to believe that this is just the setup for many many more Hill appearances in the upcoming movies, up to the point when she becomes Director of SHIELD and pwns all the other dudes something fierce.

YEEEEEEESSSSSS. From your lips to Joss's ear. I agree with whomever said above that Coulson is almost certainly going to make an appearance in any prequel movies or flashback scenes, but I'm hoping that his present-day absence means they'll give Hill more to do in the future films.

I kinda think that all of this one day will end up in them making a movie about the Marvel Civil War storyline, and Maria Hill has a very relevant part in that, so yeah. Like, 10 years from now they'll get there, but the more I hear Kevin Feige talk about these movies, the more I believe he does have a long term plan.

And YES, this movie opens doors for a bunch of prequels as well, and they can have Coulson back for those. They really can have their cake and eat it too. :)
