switch on the box, mr spock is on the table, doctor mccoy is unable to connect his brain

So last night I accidentally slept from 8pm to 1am. Which to me pretty much means a full night sleep happened before it was actual bedtime [my usual bedtime = 3am-9am]. Gah. So I spent the entire night watching TV. It seems Tuesdays are gonna be my I Watch TV Shows Most Liked By Very Old People day --

NCIS

I was pretty disappointed with last season's finale, but I have to say I really enjoyed this premiere.

And I realize that it was a pretty cheap shot to replace Ziva with Tony in the hands of the terrorists, pump him with truth serum and then let him tell the story [completely straight, no less!] in flashbacks. I mean -- it made for me guessing every. single. step. of the episode's narrative. But I gotta give props to Michael Weatherly for playing it with such edge that I was kept in the edge of my seat [if you'll pardon the pun] even while I was guessing stuff left and right.

I like this crazed, out of control Tony, that actually said NO to Gibbs [who was expecting it, obviously, for he is Gibbs and he knows what you're feeling even before you're feeling it!] and yelled at everyone and came up with an insane plan out of vengeance.

What I don't like are his motives, because the Tony/Ziva thing was tiring TWO SEASONS AGO, now it's just unbearable [and for no reason other than this crap has turned Ziva into a shell of the badass awesome woman she used to be. Grrr. Why can't male writers realize that it is possible for a woman to love someone and NOT become a floozy?!] -- and I'm actually dreading what's to come in this storyline.

But anyway. MORE ABBY, PLEASE!

NCIS: Los Angeles

Okay, so I liked the backdoor pilot 2-parter A LOT better than this episode. Those episodes were pretty interesting, and I saw a lot of potential in the characters and relationships.

But this one? Was just plain BORING.

And I mean, seriously? Callen's been shot three billion times the last time we saw him, but his big emo thing is that he doesn't know his first name?! COME THE FUCK ON.

Silver lining: Linda Hunt is made of awesome.

Unexpected HEE moment: Kensi was speaking Portugal's Portuguese on the phone when Callen first got to the new offices. IMDB tells me the actress grew up in Portugal, so there's an explanation -- but it was pretty funny anyway.

The Mentalist [two days early thanks to Canadia!]

I don't know if I ever mentioned it here, but a friend of my sister's says The Mentalist is like CSI for old ladies. And he's totally right. I mean, who cares for the victims when you can harass witness and pull crazy stunts and make lame jokes instead?

So yeah. I watch this show because I got a massive crush on Owain Yeoman, and it's only said crush that makes it bearable for me to deal with Jane's douchiness and Lisbon's stupidity. [And lemme just make it clear that I hate the fact that I HATE OMFG CAN'T STAND Lisbon, because I've loved Robin Tunney forever, but the character is killing my girlcrush and I RESENT LISBON FOR IT. A LOT. Grrrrr.]

Oh, and Grace is adorable.

The Good Wife

I kinda liked this. Totally wasn't expecting to, even, because the premise sounded very very cheesy... but somehow, it worked for me. The drama never got soap-opera-ish and the law/procedural stuff was predictable but not overly so. And it reminded me more of The Practice than Law and Order: Mothership, which in my mind, is a compliment. *g*

Plus, the cast is pretty awesome -- Julianna Margulies! Christine Baranski! Archie Panjabi! Mary Beth Peil! And HOW HAPPY does it make me to have Josh Charles back in my TV -- on a show I can watch, natch [i.e. NOT In Treatment]? VERY excited about that! Even Chris Noth, whom I can't stand, is kind of perfect to play the sleazy corrupt husband. I always feel like taking a shower when I look at him anyway. [The one exception is midget blond dude with the unpronounceable name who was Logan on Gilmore Girls. He's REALLY BAD at this acting thing considering he can only play the exact same character over and over again.]

And one not!Old-People's show --

Being Erica

OH, DOCTOR TOM. *hugs*

I never know what to expect from this show, as it always throws me for a loop, and I like it this way. This episode was no exception, and that ending -- did Erica just find out that the bartender is going through the same kind of thing as she is?! -- was possibly the most WTFkery thing they ever did. And I can't wait to see what's next.

...

In other TV news, I saw The Beautiful Life pilot and now I wish I could scrub my brain. WITH ACID.

UGH times infinity.

And I'm off to watch Bones and Glee. Oh, Fall Spring TV season, I'm so glad you're back in my life. *pets*
