I've been commenting here and there, but I figure it should be said for everyone to hear:

PINTO = slang for penis in Portuguese. Yes, it's the local equivalent for cock. As in the animal too, even ( Read more... )

I'm assuming Pinto is some RPS thing? Because otherwise I'm lost. (And I figured that now that I'd finally seen the movie, I wouldn't feel so out of the loop anymore. So much for that. ;-)

In Swedish, "pitt" suffers from the same fate, so you can imagine the snickering that's had at Brad's expense.

Yeah, it's what people are calling Pine/Quinto. And you know, I'm good with RPF/RPS -- I even read it sometimes when I'm interested enough in the real people. *g* But this stupid smudged names will never NOT be ridiculous!

HA. That's pretty funny. The only joke about Brad Pitt I know is my father thinking he's being funny saying he's gonna do "a bread pit" every time he stops at the bakery. *g*

And hey, judging by the fact that you made icons -- you've liked Trek? :)

I think my biggest issue with RPS/RPF is that I don't care about real people AT ALL. I think the only RPF I've ever read has been for SMG/JM and KB/JD, and for me, that's been all about how they inhabit the characters anyway.

I did like Trek! I was expecting to, after the raves, but what I wasn't expecting was that it would be as funny as it was, nor that it would turn the entire universe on its head like that. I'm looking forward to the second installment already.

I'm mostly BORED by the real people; really. What I meant is -- I don't have any moral objections or squicks re: RPF/S. I just happen to like fictional characters better. :)

but what I wasn't expecting was that it would be as funny as it was

YES, I wasn't expecting it to be so damn funny either. It does border on ridiculous sometimes [the whole Cloverfield monsters in the ice planet thing come to mind *g*], but for some reason it works.

nor that it would turn the entire universe on its head like that.

They really went out on a limb there, but the more I think about it, the more I'm sure there wasn't any OTHER way to revive the franchising with new actors and stories and hell, new filming technology, if it weren't for the reset. And I kind of love them for doing that. :)

Yeah, that's pretty much my feelings on it too. The only times I've read it is when my obsession with a pairing has been so strong that I start to delving heavily into meta discussions - i.e. S/B and V/L.

I never would have guessed it was funny, just because my impressions of the especially the original series is that it's absolutely straight-laced, almost as if adding humor would have made the universe less credible. Of course, the things I've seen from the series have had me howling, but I doubt that was their intention. *g*

I can see how hardcore Trekkies might have been extremely put off by the movie (were they? I've tried to stay away from everything for fear of spoilers), since it basically invalidated what? 40 years of canon? Unless they come to the end of this series of films and hit the reset button again, I guess...

There are a couple of people on my flist who write so well that I end up reading their RPF just 'cause I enjoy the writing. But other than that, yes, usually only when I'm so invested in the fictional couple that I'll read the next best thing as well.

I've seen a bunch of random TNG and DS9 and I'm pretty sure I was laughing AT them instead of with them. I'm gonna try and watch TOS soon, though I *know* I'm gonna have leave all of my preconceptions behind if I really wanna do it.

Most of the hardcore Trekkies I know liked the movie. Same with the stuff I read on LJ. There are exceptions, of course, but on my flist and immediate friendsfriends I've only see one oldtime Treekie who flat out HATED it.
