Teija tagged me on the Top 5 Favorite Movies + Top 5 Guilty Pleasure Movies meme, and I went crazy with it, because I figured that while I could talk at length about each and every one of these movies, picspamming is just prettier. :)
[Very image heavy, proceed with caution.]
Top 5 Favorite Movies of all time:
1. LOLA RENNT, Tom Tykwer
35mm? Check. Digital video? Check. Animation? Check. Still photography? Check. Insane kick-ass soundtrack? Check. Circular narrative? Check. Life-changing experience that made me 100% sure I was doing the right thing at film school? Triple check, baby. It's no wonder this is my favorite movie of all time.
2. ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND, Michel Gondry
Favoritest actress EVER + OMG I LOVE JIM CAREY + bestest music video director EVER + camera tricks instead of special effects + insane-o crazy yet lovely.heartbreaking story = LOVE.
3. LE FABULEUX DESTIN D'AMÉLIE POULAIN, Jean-Pierre Jeunet
There's no other movie in the world that makes me happier.
4. PI, Darren Aronofsky
The idea that finding a pattern in PI might change the world is possibly the best idea I've ever seen in a movie. Add that to the fact that Aronofsky shot it with sound negative instead of regular 35mm b&w film and my geeky little heart can barely take it.
5. THE ROYAL TENENBAUMS, Wes Anderson
Wes Anderson has this way of telling you fucked up stories about [mostly] horrible people with such earnestness that you can't help but fall in love with all of his characters. Plus, he reminds A LOT of Robert Altman which, in my book, means DEEP ABIDING LOVE.
Honorable mentions: Moulin Rouge!, The Matrix [just the first movie], Almost Famous, Being John Malkovich, Velvet Goldmine and Good night and good luck.
Top 5 Guilty Pleasure Movies:
1. THE FIFTH ELEMENT, Luc Besson
There's no other movie I've seen more in my life. I mean, today's January 14 and this year alone I've already seen The Fifth Element twice. And I know I'll watch it over and over again and never get tired of it. Plus, I get a kick out of the fact that Luc Besson wrote this when he was 13 years old.
2. CLUELESS, Amy Heckerling
Bestest. Jane. Austen. Adaptation. EVER. The end.
3. THE FACULTY, Robert Rodriguez
Dude. It's Dawson's Creek-meets-Invasion of the Body Snatchers, written by Kevin Williamson no less. IT WAS MADE FOR ME.
4. GROSSE POINTE BLANK, George Armitage
I really wish John Cusack would stop making stupid romantic comedies and went back to black sarcastic fucked-up comedies. I mean, who wants to see Must Love Dogs when you can watch a strung out professional killer go to his high school reunion? Honestly.
5. THAT THING YOU DO, Tom Hanks
Guy Patterson = perfectest person in the world. YES.
Honorable mentions: 10 Things I Hate About You, Shakespeare in Love, Muriel's Wedding, Galaxy Quest, Spaceballs and Happy, Texas.
Do I need to tag anyone? I think most of you have already done this. :)
