That's really exciting! I'm currently working my way through everything Neal Stephenson's every written, I think The Diamond Age might be next in line now.
Oooh, that's great to know! :) I love the way he writes, and while I've always been wary of the idea of his books being adapted into movies, I'm pretty cool with them turning into mini-series. That way they have time to develop the storyline well.
I've just finished Cryptonomicon and the sheer amount of detail in the book means it would probably never work as a two-hour movie. They'd have to leave out a huge amount of the plot and really strip it down. I could see them working better as a mini-series, for exactly the same reason you mentioned, more time for the story... and if Stephenson's doing it himself... it might rock hard.
Yeah, it's just like Snow Crash and all of its parallel storylines -- it would never work as a feature film, but I guess it could be made into a longer medium.
I just love the fact that Neal himself is involved in The Diamond Age adaptation, that makes it A LOT easier to anticipate. :)
YES. I don't think anyone else could do it properly anyway, but it's just great to know it's happening. And as as mini-series, which means enough TIME to develop the storyline the right way. SQUEE! :)
