Howdy folks. I'm doing a bit of pleasant pirating. I should be doing some Daily Songs, but I'm busy listening to Tom Waits live performances! I'm currently listening to him performing 'Chocolate Jesus' on The Late Show with David Letterman. It's great. Tom's great. Who else could go on Letterman, and sing into a Megaphone? Now it's on to 'God's Away on Business'. Want to hear a great quote about his voice? "...like it was soaked in a vat of bourbon, left hanging in the smokehouse for a few months, and then taken outside and run over with a car." That's from Daniel Durchholtz (and I think I originally read it on the Wikipedia haha). Now I'm on to 'Rain Dogs', a live version. Oh my god it's fucking amazing. I don't know why, but all of my favorite artists are fucking weird. My two favorite artists are probably Hunter Thompson and Tom Waits, and they're both extremely eclectic and possibly (probably in the former's case) bat-shit crazy. I wonder if they ever met? And I wonder if they'd get on? Hmmm.
One more day of work! Want to hear how depressing my head is? I look forward to my weekend off all week. Then Friday night I'm in love with the thought of WEEKEND. And Saturday morning and afternoon are cool. Then Saturday night comes about and I start thinking about how I only have one more day, then I have to work for SIX STRAIGHT DAYS! And Sunday is spent checking the clock and figuring out how much longer until I have to wake up for work. Such is the life of Yvie. Seriously, I haven't added my own damned name to Chrome's dictionary?! That's odd. Fixed. Smile.
I was just thinking of how I'd like to see Waits live before I (or he) die(s). And I then thought that I used to say that about Dylan (and I would still like to)...but I totally could have about 2 years ago. He was in Toledo (I think? Maybe Fort Wayne, IND. But I think Toledo. I think the Toledo Zoo put it on. BTW, say what you want about Toledo...and there's a lot to say cuz it's a shit hole, but they have one of the best Zoo's in the country) and I didn't go. It was possibly a once-in-a-lifetime thing. Alas, me not wanting to deal with the General Public once again kept me from going. Oh well. Smile.
Anyone ever heard of 'Fernwood Tonight'? It's like a...shit late-night show. But it must be around Toledo cuz Waits' car broke down and he went and performed on this show. He sang 'The Piano Has Been Drinking' on it. It was on TVLand. I'm watching the video. And starting to ramble. And Toledo has been mentioned twice (now three times). I don't like that city. Moving on.
Hmm. I don't know where to move to so I suppose I'll just cut this short. But I'll leave you with this video. You're fucking welcome.
