2014 Fic Year in Review
Scope note: Anonymous exchange fics are included in the Year in Review for the year in which they were revealed, so this post includes my Yuletide 2013 stories, revealed on January 1, 2014. To my surprise, it also includes my Yuletide 2014 story, which was revealed before midnight in my time zone on December 31, 2014.
This year I posted 32 stories in 10 fandoms totaling a little over 407,000 words, which surprised me--it topped the total for 2008, the year I posted Missing Persons, which accounted for 250,000 words all by itself. I didn't have one such enormous story this year, but one novel-length and six novella-length fics plus assorted mid-length stories add up, apparently.

My favorite story this year: Sell Your Body to the Night
Most fun story to write: "Kinky Retail Professionalism" and "The Saga of Bucky's Duck" were both things that I just wrote in email, giggling to myself all the way, and then posted to tumblr and then realized they were actual stories. "Another Man's Blessing" was one of those stories that was just gloriously self-indulgent, like I couldn't believe I was allowed to just write it exactly like that. "Owls in the Garden" was my Yuletide story this year, and I read my recipient's letter, got this prompt, and was just capslocking at people in real life because I was SO EXCITED TO WRITE THIS.
Story with the single sexiest moment: I was going to say "Terms of Surrender" and then I realized "There's My Territory" is this year.
Story that got the most unexpected reaction from readers: I was genuinely surprised by how much people loved "Kinky Retail Professionalism"! IT WAS JUST A THING I WROTE IN AN EMAIL TO MAKE MY BETAS LAUGH.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: For like eight months of this year I thought I was going to have to settle for the (not especially wrong, by my standards) teenaged sibling incest in "We Will Never Be Alone in This World," BUT NO, along came the HYDRA Trash Party to give me a wealth of choices. Still I think "Butt Stuff" is the clear winner.
Hardest story to write: "Hold" was, for a pretty short story, a really, really miserable slog. "Give Me Your Filth" gave me some kind of actual post-trash-party misery hangover when I finished it--I got it betaed and couldn't even make myself look at the beta comments for days after they came back because I just didn't want to go back there.
Biggest surprise: Bucky Barnes in general--I really wasn't particularly interested in Cap 2 until the SECOND time I saw it, and hadn't given Steve/Bucky more than a passing thought--and the Trash Party in particular. In twelve years in fandom, this year's run of stories are the first time I've ever used the Rape/Non-Con tag on AO3. This used to not be my thing and now apparently it is my thing?
Most unintentionally telling story: Uh, probably collectively also my trash party stories, and further deponent sayeth not.
