2011 Fic Year in Review
Scope note: Yuletide fics are included in the Year in Review for the year in which they were revealed, so this post includes my Yuletide 2010 stories, revealed on January 1, 2011. Yuletide 2011 fics will be in the 2012 Fic Year in Review.
This year I posted 22 stories in about 11 fandoms, totaling about 197,000 words.

I'm filling this out while sitting next to
iulia, so I will tell you her votes, if they differ from mine.
My best story this year: "Jigsaw", I think, yeah.
My favorite story this year: Probably "The Shadow That You're Standing On", or "You Just Brace and You Breathe". (Iulia says "Jigsaw", obvs.)
Most fun story to write: "Sex on a Frozen River Mayhem", hands down. I just giggled for an hour while writing it and there it was.
Story with the single sexiest moment: Iulia says the sex in "Jigsaw" was the hottest, which is awesome because that story is PG-13. I guess, um... "You Just Brace and You Breathe", probably.
Story that got the most unexpected reaction from readers: "Which in Your Case You Have Not Got", because I really did not think people would be so excited right from the start about an Evan-POV gen story crossing over Generation Kill with A Companion to Wolves.
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: I suspect it's probably "The Only Thing I Ever Want Anymore". Iulia votes for my trio of sad masturbation stories as a whole ("The Only Thing I Ever Want Anymore", "The Fine Art of the Combat Jack", and "Frequently Suggested Sexual Practices").
Hardest story to write: Well, "Jigsaw" took seven years from the time I came up with the idea, and more than two years from the time I started writing, but all the actual writing parts were really fun and fairly fast, and even the beta process was mostly comprised of adding more cool things. It's just that when I got stuck, I just got really, really stuck.
"And All Its Clear Relations" (which went through three or four different working titles so I never remember that that's what it's called) was pretty tough in the way where I seriously lost faith in the story and lost track of what I was trying to do with it well before I actually finished the story, which always makes for a grim march to the end.
Iulia points out that the Santa story was also WAY MORE DIFFICULT than I expected it to be when I sat down to write a fluffy story about Brad dressing up as Santa for some reason and then having sex with Nate.
So. One of those.
Biggest surprise: Generation Kill as a whole, and especially the Generation Kill wolf-verse, were definitely nothing I would have foreseen at the start of the year. In particular, I was surprised by "One to Grow On"--I really wasn't sure when I got my exchange assignment that I could write Doc/Brunmeier, but I did!
Most unintentionally telling story: Hmmm. This year's big writing trend, from my view, even though it didn't actually involve a huge number of stories, was Finishing Languishing WIPs. Not only "Jigsaw" but also "And All Its Clear Relations" and "Frequently Suggested Sexual Practices" had been waiting a long time, and I'm rather pleased to have managed to put on my big-girl pants and finish those. It kind of feels like I'm clearing the decks for something, and I guess in 2012 I'll find out what.
