Violent Soho -- The Troubadour

I haven't been gigging a lot lately (although I've still managed 29 bands so far this year somehow), but I shot the album launch of Violent Soho on Saturday at the Troubadour in the Valley. It was also my first shoot for about six weeks.

The lighting was spectacularly bad, and it was really crowded, which meant I was stuck over on "side stage" with very little opportunity to move around and get different angles. The cramped situation meant I had to use my 28-75mm zoom lens since it goes wider than the 50mm prime. Problem was the zoom operates at f2.8 and really isn't quite fast enough -- and certainly not as fast as the f1.8 of the 50mm.

I still managed to get a few that I rather liked and captured a 'raw' feel that partially comes from pushy the exposures to the limit in terms of lightening and removing shadow. They tend to look rather gritty, which suits the style of the band and their own musical rawness. So that makes me happy.

In between all the fretting over getting decent shots, I didn't really get to enjoy the music as much as I might have liked, but the set was solid enough, if a little on the short side. Below are a couple of the ones that I like the most. More can be found over on Fasterlouder
