In which we gloat just a little...

So Fasterlouder threw a Christmas bash at the Zoo the other night for contributors and people who visit the site. There was a slightly annoying number of no shows (always a problem with a free gig ... and it was a school night to boot), but the bands were entertaining and much fun was had. There were finger foods which was a true novelty - I haven't seen the Zoo serving edibles for about 10 years. They used to use the food thing as a way of getting round the expense of a full liquor license in the early days, I guess. It felt really strange to have the usually hard-arsed glassies bringing round trays of chips. Definitely the surreal moment of the night.

Bandwise, Violent Soho noisily proved grunge isn't dead, Van Lustbader came out all guns blazing, had a mid-set flat spot and then pulled it back together at the end (the tall, lanky guitarist had very fast fingers), and headliners Mink distributed stripy Xmas candy canes to the crowd. The drummer rocked particularly hard. Their attitude to lending gear to supports maybe leaves a little to be desired, though.

Oh, and some fellow pronounced yours truly the Fasterlouder Reviewer of the Year (apparently it needs the caps) and I scored a $50 voucher to spend at the place of evil. My speech, even if I do say so myself, was wonderfully brief.
