An oldie but a goodie - an ode to my good friend Kathy

Mar 24, 2006 15:10

Elaine got me thinking about real life friends and how special they are, and I had a close encounter with one just this week myself who I haven't spoken to in probably about a year....  I think I might send this to her by e-mail, or maybe even snail mail, the good ol fashioned way. (I'd direct her here, but I don't know if she'd cope with the world of blog.  Of course I could be massively underestimating her, and probably am).

Kathy…..

Every time I ………..

Eat 2 minute noodles

Roast marshmellows on a fire

Ride a bike

Do the lawn edges

Smell pastizzis

Listen to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers

See a corner lounge with a middle cabinet

Watch the Simpsons

Try and play the piano (Les Mis or Heart & Soul)

Think about potato pies

Watch Andre Agassi play tennis

Fill water balloons

Speak Italian

Play putt putt golf

Hear about Troy Cassar-Daley

Remember Pac-Girl

Tell my dog to "get in your box"

Make a fancy birthday cake (maybe a Tiger?)

Drink peach cooler

Want to ride a tandem bike

Swear in Maltese

Wish I had a sister

I think of you.

I think of all the wonderful times we had growing up together, all the shit we got up to, all the fun we had and all the things we shared.

I know we haven’t spent a lot of time together in the last few years but I want you to know that you will always be very special to me.

Your true friends are those that even if you haven’t seen or spoken to them for years, you can pick things up again just like that when you finally do. And even though you might have 2 kids now, you’re not "all about the kids and nothing else" like some mothers become. We even chatted for about 10 minutes before you started trying to settle a baby crying in the background and I had to ‘ask" if you had a daughter now!

We’ve been friends since way back on that first day of high school in 1985 (when I shocked you even then as a precocious and righteous 12 year old) and you’ve been able to cope with me, warts and all since then. Through all the massive changes and different directions our lives journeys have taken us, you have remained honest loyal and true (attributes which are hugely important to me) and I love you just as much now as I ever did.

Thank you for being one of the good ones and for being that sister that I never had.
