So tomorrow night the Tossers are playing at Slim's. If you are unfamiliar with them, just imagine that the Pogues had a lovechild with your favorite political indy band and then spent hours drinking scotch. There you have the Tossers - and they are worth seeing...so much so that even though I teach bright and early on Saturday AM, I will sneak out for a bit to see them play...they are in the ill-fated middle slot, so it shouldn't be a late show and you should join me there.
Then there are the ACTUAL Pogues, coming in October...and between the 2, New Model Army returns to the DNA yet again in the middle of September. I think this time I am going to watch them from afar...front row pictures all look the same after awhile. ;)
In other sadder music news, A world renowned Irish singer, songwriter and storyteller has died. Tommy Makem 74, had been battling lung cancer, according to a message on his Web site. Armed with his banjo, tin whistle, poetry, stagecraft and baritone voice, Makem helped spread stories and songs of Irish culture. Makem was best known while performing with The Clancy Brothers in the late 1950's and 1960's.
