I once again quote a Letter to the Editor in the NYTimes. The person is writing about Rev. Ted Haggard's declaration that he is "completely heterosexual" after 3 weeks of counseling. Whether this is true or not, possible or not, the writer points out that other things matter a hell of a lot more.
"The announcement has generated plenty of news coverage, but Mr. Haggard’s and the media’s focus on his sexuality is misplaced. The real question is whether he is completely monogamous.
Being gay, by itself, is not immoral and does not cause harm, while breaking the marriage vow is hurtful, destructive and dishonest.
When will society come to focus on what really matters instead of casting pseudo-moral aspersions against people’s sexual orientation?"
