So first impression of the summer alumni program....I don't like it. I didn't get an apartment in Chatham, instead I got a three bedroom in Vista way. The room already has ants...did I mention there are no cable tv outlets, phone jacks, or internet connections in the bedrooms? Cause there aren't. Hopefully the tv situation will be remedied tonight. My roommate is not quite right. I'm not sure what the problem is, but there's something. You know its not a good sign when she says, we're already getting along so well, we'll be best friends. I am certainly in for a very, very long 10 weeks. The rest of the roommates I've met so far seem ok, we'll just have to wait and see. It may be a lot of me going to parks alone this time, which is fine with me. I just need to find a Pleasure Island Buddy.
On a lighter and better note, I was the 175 person in line this morning so I got a Year of a Million Dreams Magnet! Woot! And after I texted my mom about the unfortunate living situation, she texted me back and said she was talking to Christy and she said I could switch. I was like who is Christy...about that time I got done with a station and I walked past the parent welcome center (yes there is one of those, this is disney after all...the only place where they have Disney movies and papers and cold bottled water for the parents) and this Christy comes up to me and was like "Do you know who I am?" I was like um, no. She was like I'm your recruiter! And she was in fact my campus rep recruiter. She had asked my parents (before she knew they were mine) if they wanted the tour and they were like oh no we've been here before, and then she asked where we were from, and they were like Illinois, and then she asked which school and my mom told her Millikin, and she was like Oh Kelsey's your daughter! It's certainly a small world after all. And she has vowed to take care of me and find me a job. It's a good feeling to know that I've made enough connections here that they are willing to help me out now.
I think I may have also found an apartment for when I'm done with this program. It's a really nice complex that has 4 pools, tennis courts, two billiard rooms, and two full time cops who live there full time and protect people. It's really expensive, but it's doable if I have a roommate...the only unfortunate thing is that leases for August open up next week, so I would have to sign a year long lease when I don't have a roommate yet. It's kind of scary that I would have to obligate that much money for that long. But it's so close to Disney that you can see the fireworks at night. It's perfect. Hopefully it works out.
Tomorrow I find out where I will be working. I will also be picking up my campus rep id (I told them I'd get it yesterday, hopefully it's still here) then I am going straight to the Magic Kingdom to get myself a dole whip and watch Spectromagic and Wishes. Then the world will be ok. I just need to relax and realize that I'm at Disney again. This is where I'm comfortable, this is where I feel most at home, besides for not knowing very many people and what not. I was surprised tonight when we got dinner at the marketplace how easily I slipped back into cast member mode. I actually started called people Ma'am when I said excuse me, and I really think the Disney point would have made an appearance if I'd needed to point at something. It's interesting that the training never really leaves you, it went dormant for a while this past year at school, but it's back now.
So this ended up being very long, and I apologize, but I needed to let things out. Let's see what happens tomorrow...maybe I'll be surprised with my work location. And if not, there's still a dole whip in my future.
Have a magical night!
