Road Trip

From mid-July to the end of August, I will be going on a road trip with four good friends all over the US (tentatively - up the east coast, around to Canada, through Michigan, and then down to Southwest California, then up to Nevada) and I want to know if anyone knows any good places that should be on the list of places to go - or people we could stay with - or any other helpful advice.
