If you wanted to stare at the Hole Formerly Known as the World Trade Center, your best bets are:

The bridge that crosses the West Side Highway and runs alongside the WTC site (top view)

or

The WTC PATH station (side view)

Both offer unobstructed perspectives. It's really quite sobering.

Yes, but unfortunately, The Hole Formerly Known as the World Trade Center doesn't really have much impact when you weren't actually there to see what used to fill the hole.
