it's motherfucken summertime, yo.

friday: jeff, brandon, eric, sam and i went to the late showing of ocean's thirteen. pretty good. some really funny parts but i think 1 and 2 have it beat. either way, good night.

weekend club crew @ sonotheque

saturday: jeff, brandon, caitlin and i went to sonotheque to see photek. we got lost again (kind of). construction near downtown has made the exits confusing with many of them requiring you be in the opposite lanes than usual so we had to reroute through the city instead of going around the west side to get there. when jeff and i saw him with the metalheadz crew back in the day it was all crazy rave jungle with the wall of roar and an mc on top and i was hoping with the smaller venue that he might tone it back a notch, which he did. it was a blend of tight british techstep and hiphop mashup. much talents. sonotheque closes at 3am instead of 4 like smartbar and it tends to be a bunch of drunk people getting pushed out into the street at 2:55 so we stumbled around for a while and took a bunch of retarded drunk pictures of ourselves. those are all on photobucket at http://s211.photobucket.com/albums/bb156/ecesis/photek%20june%209/

sunday: jeff, brandon, caitlin and i went to smartbar to see richie hawtin. we didn't get there until 12:30 and there was a massive line outside since they had made capacity already and we waited for an hour to get in. i've never seen so many people inside and the difference between the front bar room and the main room was at least 20 degrees. it wouldn't surprise me at all to find out that it was technically raining in that room with all the human condensation. ridiculous. richie dropped some quality tracks but i was a bit disappointed in the mixing. given that i fell in love with his mad skills on the original decks, efx and 909, i was expecting something a little more smooth. still awesome and inspiring and totally worth the wait. there are some pictures from last night, too at http://s211.photobucket.com/albums/bb156/ecesis/richie%20hawtin%20june%2010/

earlier last night was the series finale of the sopranos. i've been watching it since season three and in that time i caught up on season one and two, making this the only television show i've seen every episode of through it's lifetime. it's strange watching a show for 6+ years. you get to watch the younger cast members grow up and everyone else age and change for that matter. i want to comment on the last scene and i won't be too specific but forward thinking people may be able to deduce some spoiler info so don't read if that's important to you:

i know people are going to be heavily split on their feelings about david chase's choices for the end. i think the kneejerk reaction is to be disappointed in the lack of closure because if things are going to continue on in the soprano world we would like to continue seeing it. at the same time, i think chase did the right thing. it would have been ham-handed to end it with a shootout bloodbath with everyone dying korean-cinema deaths. the point and poignancy of the way the final scene was handled WAS to illustrate the continued tension and uncertainty of living a life in that position. at any moment, anyone who walks through the door or anyone who is looking over their shoulder or from across a room in a corner booth could be the end, just like that, with a sudden black. i think it's only with the viewers' insider information about this being the series finale and potentially expecting anything that one could most accurately put themselves in tony's or any of the other family members' shoes.

don't stop-
